Yeah, Lynch has had plenty of use for special effects. The problem is the effects he likes aren't the ones needed for a film like Dune.
Has anyone seen the extended version?
I watched the Lynch theatrical version on Netflix not long ago and had the exact same reaction as Rabin. I can't imagine watching it again much less a longer cut. Out of curiosity, though, can anyone say whether the extra footage helps clear up some of the impenetrable exposition…
Kudos
What a fine looking death cat.
Vampire Diaries
is actually a really good, fun show. Ian Somerhalder is clearly having a blast and the show has been mostly successful in marrying high school drama and vampire grisliness. And, while I doubt many people here will be tempted to give it a shot, it picked up steam as it went along ending with a pretty…
You Upstart!
Run your marx Bros. geekery while I'm on vacation will you!
I figured out the ending early on and was hoping the whole time that they would defy my expectations. Sadly, it was not to be. It's shame since the rest of it is a damn fine chase movie.
Wings of Desire
What seems special and enticing about humanity through the first two thirds of the film is lost once he becomes human. I can't think of a less interesting way to conclude things than the staid conversation he has with Marion once the two finally meet up.
With this and Marmaduke opening…
How about classing up the joint a bit by getting someone to review the new Metropolis cut?
I haven't seen any of the remakes, but they seem too slight to inspire some of the vitriol that gets lobbed Burton's way. Besides, Sweeney Todd and Corpse Bride are both good movies. He got his lifetime pass with Ed Wood so even if he makes utter dreck from here on out I couldn't hate the guy.
Aliens is pro-Weaver killing stuff, but I wouldn't say it's pro-military. Like Avatar, it's military guys are pretty much all meatheads. It's especially infuriating in Avatar as it's used to denigrate humanity in favor of what the magical blue-folk were selling.
I think it was implied that Jack got a glimpse of it while he was dying. As for the other characters, I think Juliet detonating the bomb is what allowed this sideways purgatory to exist so the people who died before that would not have seen it. Aside from Jack, the deaths this season have either been very quick…
I initially thought that as well but then remembered that all the dead Dharma folk were tossed in a pit away from Otherton.
Miles tease
Yay for the return of Miles. Boo for giving him about 10 seconds of screen time.
Shadow of the Vampire
Dafoe is wonderful, but whenever he's not on screen the movie just deflates. It's too serious about the "director is the _true_ monster" angle and couldn't quite get the look or feel right for its Nosferatu reenactments. A remake could be great if they keep Dafoe and follow his lead by actually…
Bad news
So according to this interview with Alan Sepinwall, http://www.hitfix.com/blogs… we are not going to be seeing the other side of the outrigger shootout. I can forgive a lot of the narrative hiccups in the show, but this is something I really wanted them to clear up. I'm with Alan here, there have been so many…
According to Janney's character everyone has some of that light. Is it all connected back to this pool on some island somewhere? So if the island light gets compromised everyone's souls would suddenly get extinguished? I don't know if I'd be very content with that explanation.
Frankly, I'm not convinced that Smokey leaving the island would result in total destruction or what have you. In fact, if he were to leave the island I think his evilness would be rather diluted. Going back to the cork example, you can break the bottle and release the evil inside, but instead of a highly concentrated…
That's the joke. It's just a damned island.
Yes, the island has all kinds mystical properties, and now we've even seen its "heart": a pool of shimmering mumbo-jumbo. However, other than being a really cool place I don't see why the island is _important_. I was hoping this episode would shed some light on the island's…
