I'm posting NBC Thursday stuff (9 February 1984) in the morning. I spent the day doing freelance writing. I've been drained of all creativity.
"I hit Alex!" is like Good Times' "Damn damn damn." Perfectly delivered even though they are easy to mock.

But Bill is so much more alienating than those characters. At the same time, if it did become a hit, imagine the creative reaction. The networks would have beaten cable to the anti-hero.
No doubt the ratings would jump — even Hill Street jumped that first season — and it really only fits in post-Cheers slot. But I can't imagine it ever being a breakout like the rest. It's just too niche and too special for this world.
Perhaps that's a new way to start looking at the series. Seeing some of it as a lived experience rather than in relation to other art.
I sometimes wonder what might've happened if Todd had found someone to cover NCIS back in the day like he wanted. If that could've spun into limited coverage of stuff like NCIS: LA and Chicago Justice today.

On Saturday and Sunday Turner Classic Movies celebrates the man synonymous with TCM, Robert Osborne. Saturday features his interviews with Norman Jewison, Alan Arkin, Luise Rainer, Liza Minnelli, Eva Marie Saint, Peter O'Toole, Kim Novak, Debbie Reynolds, Betty Hutton, and Ernest Borgnine.
This is during the 1983-84 TV season — The Golden Girls was still a couple years away. NBC's Friday and Saturday night 1983 fall lineups are some of the most notorious TV scheduling disasters.
