charging a fee is weird.

There was clearly money in TOS.

One wonders if TNG would have even survived its early, pre-Riker’s beard seasons in the modern era.

1. I object to people trying to police genre boundaries

The Soviet Union fell apart like 30 years ago and it only took some trolling online to make the supposed progressives in American society think Russia was a global villain again.

And why is Picard taking medical advice from Harry Drake? That seems dodgy.

I’m conflicted about your comment. On the one hand, I agree that the apples and oranges comparison between the two shows is pretty silly. On the other hand, I really hope that whoever invented the term “space fantasy” is in the Bad Place getting spiders shoved up his butthole.

That’s disgusting.

My only real complaint about the film is that, while the brilliant editing makes it easy to keep track of where you are in the timeline, I found it difficult to keep track of who is really a child and who is a young adult. They didn’t really seem to age across the different times, so I was surprised when they acted

Did you miss the time travel sequence in Endgame?

The entire primary/caucus system is harmful to democracy and should be abolished. It’s expensive, takes way too long, and polarizes the political system. We should switch to a national popular vote with some form of ranked choice voting. If political parties want to nominate candidates, they can do so by polling their

What was screwed up specifically was that there was no chance for people to improve. The new system allows you to get more points after you die (and sets up scenarios specifically to allow improvement), it doesn’t change the points system itself or the threshold for reaching the Good Place. It shouldn’t take long for

Marta is very forgiving, but it’s clear that Meg is a portrait of the kind of person who is an “ally” only as long as they are in the superior position. Meg is actually not under “incredible pressure”: Marta has already offered to pay for Meg’s education. The only thing she has to lose is her position of superiority.

Don’t blame age. I’m probably older than you, and I enjoy her pop vocal performances.

So why are all of Picard’s memorabilia locked up in the Starfleet archives, rather than at his home? He’s not living in a 3-tatami mat studio in Tokyo. He’s got a chateau all to himself. I can see that some things might be considered important Starfleet relics, perhaps to be put on display in the Starfleet museum. But

Although I guess the lesson is more “Believe in people, rather than institutions.”

It’s more of a spinoff than a sequel, like when Lou Grant went into the newspaper business.

I saw four of those movies. In the theater.

Honestly LOTRs is a mess of race and ethnicity, and one day it’ll be talked about in the same vein as Gone with the Wind - significant technically and narratively - but undeniably ugly in its regard for non-whites.

Chaque un a son gout, of course. And certainly I could see a TV show structured like that being enjoyable. But for me, the quality of the show dropped noticeably when it moved from the serial structure of the first three episodes to the Western-trope-of-the-week format. Episode 7 was better largely because it brought
