The score of a TV show is supposed to induce or enhance an emotional state. Whether it’s “manipulative” or not is a subjective determination. If you notice what it’s doing and resent it, then it’s manipulative.

Yes, I saw that, but the point of the break fast scene was that her coming out was anticlimactic; nobody seems that put out, and she’s upstaged by her sister-in-law’s baby announcement anyway.
I agree. Never understood why other people seem to find him funny.
I found this episode unsatisfying as a whole, despite some great scenes. The whole art-world subplot seemed completely unrelated to the Midge coming out plot. We get a scene with Joel simultaneously reveling in his new life as a factory owner who seems to be bedding a different clothing model every night and whinging…
Best thing about this episode was Susie’s sister, who was a total ditz when the men were around, but as soon as it’s just her and Susie, she drops the act and is sharp as a tack. How did she get stuck with Skint and his wooden leg, anyway?
Yeah, break fast is usually bagels. That was more of a Rosh Hashanah dinner.
One last stray observation: Why can’t Midge have her announcement while people eat? I think I was a pissed as the cook that the food was getting cold.
On the other hand, I think the show’s description of the Maisel side of the family is spot-on. Jews in pop culture are typically Weissmans: Upper West Side, well off, intellectual, neurotic, late-period Woody Allen Jews. You don’t see the up-from-the-streets, “when I was your age we had NOTHING” Jews for whom running…
Apple Music recommended Japanese Breakfast because I listened to Mitski. So I guess I need to check out Mariya Takeuchi!
I agree that it is not isomorphic with the Christian heaven and hell, but it is a conception of heaven(s) and hell(s). Karma is not literally a points system, but it is the accumulated consequence of your good or bad actions. And while yes, you can be reborn as a duck or a worm, you can also be reborn into hell or…

Buddhists do not do good deeds in order to get into heaven. They don’t have a concept of heaven.
Everyone on this thread is magnificently wrong. But whatever, you’re entitled to your (wrong) opinions. But please stop impugning the reviewer’s integrity just because you disagree with them. Maybe it’s possible for someone to have a different opinion than you without being a paid agent?
Doctor Who has not shied away from critiquing British imperialism, e.g., “Kinda”.
That claim is objectively wrong.
Um, that’s the point.
it just becomes Doctor Who
Here’s a hint: maybe your tastes aren’t universal objective truth.
Yup.
I think 9's outfit was boring, yes. I like 13's.
