Holy crap, seriously?
It would still be racist, but it wouldn’t be getting the attention it currently is getting because THIS way it’s racist in concept and execution, but euphemistically, it would just be racist in concept, and thus less obvious.
Yup. My social media posts are all either SUPER innocuous, or SUPER anonymous (and still fairly innocuous). If I feel like I’m ever typing something that, if taken out of context and a very wrong way, could lose me my job, I don’t type it even here, on a Kinja burner account.
It’s just so hard to know where to start with this one. Like, do you begin with his racism, or his dangerous anti-vax ideas? There are so many places to go with the incredible amounts of wrong in his tweet!
I mean, they are told to “sing,” and are paid buckets of money to do so. This is on the parade and similar venues who promise singing and can’t/shouldn’t deliver.
I think that our expectations for music are totally bogus, ESPECIALLY singing. We hear a TON of heavily produced music, and we’re trained to think (via frequent lip-syncing) that singers should sound exactly the same in person as they do on the album.
Are you...angry at me...for not reading the Nicki Minaj articles?
Hottest girl in the whole wide room.
I call ‘em as I see ‘em. I don’t really comment on Minaj or any similar because I know next to nothing about them. I’m kind of an old for this site, so I know about people like Stefani.
To what? Using Japanese girls as props?
Good point! I guess in my life, I’ve never *not* known the situation, so I haven’t really had the “shrug” moment. I’ve known the people for months, minimum, before they make the decision (family, former students).
Nobody in my family gets their annual appointment in the fall, so just *remembering* to get the flu shot is tricky. This article reminded me to sign up the kiddo, and then I gotta haul my and my husband’s butts to the drugstore one of these days for ours.
Fun fact I remember from a HS project that was particularly morbid (it compared on contrasted the influenza pandemic and the black death):
My husband didn’t get one last year, and then, during the height of flu season, we almost had to go to the ER for our daughter. He was FREAKING OUT, because we both knew that if we entered that ER, he’d have the flu the next week.
I judge for homeschooling, despite the fact that I was partially home-schooled and had a positive experience with it.
My co-workers all “debate” this every year.
It doesn’t, technically.
It’s definitely a problem in some contexts, but there’s nuance to it, too. It’s an odd, mostly one-sided relationship, but there’s something there nonetheless, and we spend time with these people and their creative output.
