"It’s probably too much to expect a mainstream network sitcom to not build an episode around regressive gender roles, but that doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating to see. "

Because people are crazy? I mean, first it's "Why isn't there a female led [whatever]?". So they make one, and it becomes "Yes, but where's the racial diversity?". So they go and do that. Next comes "Why are all the characters straight?" and so on. It never ends. Thank goodness the show has a disabled veteran so no

"This show sure has a lot of white people in it. It wouldn’t hurt to have some diversity in the cast."

Yes, the third season of Clone Wars is a bit of a mess (the poisoned tea episode remains the series' absolute nadir, even worse than every Jar Jar episode combined), but then Season 4 and 5 happened and it's amazing. :)

Diversity for diversity's sake doesn't really solve anything. Shouldn't who and what a character is flow naturally from the stories being told?

Because in order to dismiss a man who has told something to you, you need to invent a nonsense term that shuts down the conversation so you can feel superior. "Mansplaining" is as good as any really.
