This has been very disturbing to me as well. Obviously the majority of commenters on Jezebel come from non-minority backgrounds. Whenever articles concerning individuals from other cultural backgrounds come up, the overwhelming response is for people to say something like “nah the culture drove them to do it and we

She was not abused.

The amount of apologists and excusers on this article are astounding. But I suppose that’s Jezebel, where readers must always side with the “perceived” victim. The real victims in this story would be the mother and father.

Yes, this is what I have been waiting for someone to say, to call out. It is actually utterly offensive to say that this is a result of her “culture”. There is something very icky and wrong about saying that she became a murderer because her culture drove her to it. I grew up in the same culture as Pan with peers from

This is not true. Where is the evidence that her parents were “mad people”. That is a very libelous and unsupported accusation to make. If you read the full article on toronto, her mother was actually her supporter, emotionally there for her and helping her out when her dad was too strict. There was also no mention of

Ugh, this is what I’ve been waiting to hear someone say. It is not a cultural thing. She is of a certain culture but that does not mean she is not also an evil individual that exhibited sociopathic behaviors on her own. Let’s not make her into the victim and blame everything onto her culture. I am also an Asian

what?

That’s exactly what we all mean when we say religion encourages a lack of critical thinking skills that is of serious detriment to the advancement and welfare of the community

Quite the achievement.

good mom.

She was not born deaf. She contracted measles at 3 years of age which made her go deaf. It’s in the article.

I did read the entire article, so that suggestion is not going to fly. Objectively, she is indeed imposing her story upon the public and Jezebel is giving her the huge, intrusive platform to do so.

Between this "authentic" story and your self-righteous bs, I would read neither.

Not a single commenter- and I've read through nearly all of the comments- has had an experience of father to daughter incest

I agree with you, and I'm from a younger generation than you. It is selfish of her to impose this story upon the public. It is likely she needed a public forum to express her exp because of "self healing", but the story itself is disturbing and unnecessary, it did not need to be published and the world would have been

You're not the only one either. This article has irresponsible implications and these comments are a classic example of jezebelians terrified of stepping on someone else's stories and "lived experiences" so they take the other extreme end

I found this story disgusting and disturbing and felt it did not need to be shared. And if it were necessary to be unleashed upon the world as part of the author's healing process- a more reserved response from the commentariat would have felt more appropriate. This was disgusting and unnecessary.

gross.

What he means is the perpetrator is a man, whether it is man on woman or man on man. Why is it always a man? We need to examine and address this trend.
