I haven’t really been able to figure out why I haven’t warmed to Kelly, and I think this review has finally crystallized it for me: she seems to exist to solve problems for other characters that the writers are more interested in, rather than as a person we’re supposed to care about in her own right.

Alex needed a new

So it was revealed in a throwaway line that Beth and Kate are not only sisters, but twins. I’m no biologist, but presumably that makes it a little easier to confirm that the DNA on the knife is not Beth’s, since it will be a very close match to Kate’s if it is.

This is not going to be a popular answer, but at least it’ll be long! Here’s the story.

The year is 2007 — 12 years ago almost to the day, as it happens. The 1-3 Buffalo Bills are on Monday Night Football for the first time in two decades, playing the 4-0 Dallas Cowboys. Everyone expects Buffalo to go down hard, but

This was my take too. A story that takes down a U.S. President probably clears the bar for a Pulitzer even if it’s written in crayon. I did wonder whether CatCo Media was really worth $1.3B though.

I thought the new look could’ve used more red. At least for me, the mostly blue all over makes it look too “tactical” and not “costume” enough, if that makes any sense.

6) They must have chopped nuts.

The way that Burt seems to be the only person in town who always comes out ahead has me convinced he’s a Lucifer-type figure. If Janet represents the power of “fake-your-way-to-a-fortune” capitalist bullshit, Burt represents the power of “it’s just business” capitalist bullshit, unconcerned with moral issues except as

It has been really weird watching this show after reading the deeply reported story from Politico about Jerry Falwell’s church from a few weeks ago.  Strange things are afoot in the evangelical community.

Now playing

I think this one is still my favorite of all time:

As I put it to a friend when describing the show, “When I watch Bojack Horseman, sometimes the stupid animal jokes and puns make me want to kill myself, and sometimes they are the only thing keeping me from killing myself.”

I inadvertantly made this into a much more interesting episode by recognizing Timm Sharp as half of the couple that Jimmy and Gretchen from You’re The Worst almost became couple-friends with. But since it’s my memory we’re talking about, I mistook Sharp’s role for the one Justin Kirk played in an earlier YTW episode

I feel like if we could somehow force the over-the-top I LOVE BACON PUT IT ON EVERYTHING takes to occupy the same space as the over-the-top I HATE RAISINS CULL THEM FROM THE EARTH takes, some sort of explosion would happen and everyone on the planet would become .0009% more reasonable.

Perhaps the single most appropriate bit of news for me to have heard through The Grapevine.

Best way to get a big tip from me: bring me two glasses of my beverage so I have something to drink while I wait on a refill.

When I lived in Austin on and off for ~8 years in the ‘90s and early ‘00s, the two restaurants I missed most were Brown’s Chicken and Portillo’s. I’ve often felt that a nightlife-centered culture like Austin’s would benefit greatly from a quick-turnover Chicago-style dogs/brats establishment that was open after Sixth

I’m a born and bred Chicagoan, so here is your permission to put ketchup on the kind of hot dogs most people will encounter in the wild: sad little “meat franks” made from pork & chicken and spiced to somewhat simulate the holy Vienna beef dog. I’m not going to put on airs when I’ve got one of those — ketchup,

The “court reporter knows how to spell Chazzzzz” joke is an exact transplant of the Futurama joke where George Takei’s jarred head has “been to enough fan conventions to know how to spell Melllvar.”

(And just so you feel as old as I do: that joke was first made nearly 20 years ago. <Zog-like moan of pained dismay>)

Creamland!
Streamland!
Beamland!
Reamla--nope, not that one.

That would require giving Zog some tasks, though. Pretty much everything he does, he does for fun; he wouldn’t want to automate away his joy of dumping people into the sea via trap-door, would he?

Still a funny show if you watch it that way.
