I hope everyone understands that Echo is being dumped. It is not the beginning of the comeback, it is, hopefully, the nadir of the descent. In hindsight I think the smart thing would have been to Batgirl the series and forget about it. Now they are going to have another cycle of bloggers writing about how Echo shows…
Things were easier when there was less material out there that you had to see to understand what was happening.
The live-action Cowboy Bebop I think was broadly fine. The casting was mostly excellent (even John Cho, which I was very dubious about to start with due to his age) and some characters’ storylines were even improved (Julia is a bit of a nonentity in the anime and is a better character in the live-action).
He should have written a Harry Potter sequel with a name like that...
I really think this is a case where “shot-for-shot” remake is the best answer. Take advantage of the new medium to lean into some of the visuals and trim some of the episodes and bits that didn’t work (which is very little, I’d guess around 10% of the entire Series). But if the Netflix remake isn’t Avatar script + ligh…
