Awesome. I'm into hiking (well, I was and I will be, long story) in a big way. I like to count my steps over a large distance, correct for topography and then compare to what my gps says I have travelled. A nerdy way to hike, perhaps, but using the beads would help!

Thanks for the info. I just finished teaching basic first aid to a bunch of Boy Scouts. We talked about washing the wound, but I will make sure they know that is the most important step for these types of wounds.

Please explain. I'm not a doctor, but I am under the impression that breaks in the skin leave one vulnerable to infection by bacteria the skin normally keeps outside the body. An antibiotic on the wound helps prevent such infection. So, am I the victim of advertising or what's going on here?

Another way to do this is to pick up some empty gel tab caplets from the pharmacy. Fill with whatever creamy product you wish, and break and apply when needed.

Implying that they are the same thing? Because they're not.

It is what it is. Might as well enjoy it!

Science is, by definition , agnostic. The existence of God is not provable or falsifiable via science. or logic. Occam's Razor has nothing to do with the existence of God. You cannot have it both ways.

You know, I wish I had thought of this! I wrecked my bike on a tight curve at about 15 miles an hour. I laid it down in my lane and then slid into the other lane, no longer on my bike. I was fined for "failure to maintain lane". I was as much a motorist at time as a pedestrian who tripped. I thought it was shitty of

I like the speed bag idea. After the accident I was in a wheelchair for a while and I used a floor-standing speed bag in rehab. That was a pretty good workout. Thanks.

Help me, lifehacker hive mind. You're my only hope.

I prefer to keep my eggs stored warm... until they turn into chickens. Then I eat them.

and @Eugenia. Thanks for the advice. In fact, it's not a lactose intolerance, which is a lack of enzymes which break down lactose, but a bona fide allergy (immune system response) to dairy that she has. Thankfully, she things soy yogurt is the best thing ever and loves her soy milk too.

I sure hopes this works out. Can this technique carry over into other food allergies? As the dad of a kid with a severe dairy allergy, I am excited by the prospect of her trying pizza with real cheese!

It's called VReveal. I use the free version to reduce blur on my home videos. It's Sweet. Giz ran something on it here

Well, people could track the height of rockets before GPS. Simple physics would give a goal/estimate, and maybe they had in with radar tracking for confirmation?

I have looked into this extensivly because 1)bats are awesome, 2) I have lots of bugs here in the southeast USA, and 3) there are lots of trees from which to hang bat houses.

Beautiful. Also, this map represents years and years of thorough and seriously boring field work. This kind of geology is not something you do for the fame. You have to love it.

You know, I like the price point, but I hesitate to purchase any box where my online services are limited. No free Hulu? No thank you very much. When I get around to setting up my ideal HT system it will be a PC running Win 7 (I really like media center with hulu, netflix and other plugins). That way if Windows can

I use the 5-sided wrench idea myself. I bought a kit years ago with a pair of axles and a seat clamp. Hex wrenches do not work, nor do anything else I own. In fact, I bought a second kit so I would have a spare key. I'm sure some expert thief somewhere could bypass this system easily, but in that case I have a backup
