Maybe because it involved her sister she was extra cautious. And maybe she felt protective of Laura and wanted her to handle it in her way.

Wow, I had no idea this was a Prometheus crossover.
Because it wasn’t criminal in her case. If you look through her twitter feed from Nov 9th, she is apparently relaying a story about how she and CK dated briefly and broke up while in the midst of a cross country trip. For the rest of the trip, after they’d broken up, she said he masturbated naked on the bed each…
>I’m puzzling over the reason she felt she had to wear a traditional male costume to deliver it?
Many of us have enjoyed the downfall of people we didn’t like to begin with. We all better brace for the downfall of many people we love. Skeletons are about to be everywhere.
It was fine for what it was. She had to speak and she did. I’m puzzling over the reason she felt she had to wear a traditional male costume to deliver it? Any thoughts on this?
That was a great statement actually. She doesn’t have to disown someone she cares about but she DID own the fact that he did something awful and she needs to do some soul searching on how this nets out for her and where her place was in all of it. The avalanche is still in motion....
I am thinking that the current captain of the Discovery is sort of a subversive take on a bad guy to begin with. I think eventually her heroes arc will involve her taking him down.
Her politics vs. his politics and the timing of this accusation culturally just don’t pass the smell test for me. This isn’t a dozen women coming out of the woodwork like Cosby or Weinstein or Moore, this is a single woman with a clear agenda with a sketchy story.
TV logic
I think you missed the basic premise of the show. She’s going to back stab her captain, take command, then grow a goatee, just like every other captain in the mirror universe.
No, he’s miming grabbing her breasts. It’s gross, but it’s not assault.
Admiral Kirk put it best in Star Trek 3: “In whatever Fleet we end up serving in...” If Starfleet will not have her, there is the Vulcan Self Defense Force and various other groups she could become a Captain in.
Trendacosta couldn’t let the article end without an unambiguous snarky insult to the show. Just to make sure it’s been conveyed.
Yeah, I mean Admiral Kirk should have gone to prison and instead they were, “Nah, you did good, here’s a new Enterprise.”
Yes, the snark is strong in this one. Did you catch the comment implied in “Longer than this show has, probably”, insinuating that Discovery won’t last long?
Sometimes io9 has to go out of it’s way to be snarky and dismissive of Discovery. I’m confused as to why this it feels so far fetched for Michael Burnham to become a captain in a fictional universe known for forgiving law breakers that it merits an article.
Another piece taking a lazy dig at Discovery on io9, today must end in a ‘Y’.
I could see her receiving a reduced sentence, or even time served, if she has some significant hand in shortening the war. It also doesn’t seem far outside cannon for her to receive a field promotion to first-officer when Lorca is finally ousted and Saru becomes captain, fast-tracking her to captain.
It’s really very easy: the President of the Federation issues a pardon. Star Fleet, in recognition of her service aboard Discovery, re-issues her commission, albeit probably at a rank like Lieutenant, junior grade. The rest is the same kind of sweat-equity she’s already put in.
