A Light Kind of Dark
alightkindofdark

I read an article about a girl who attended the Hershey School whose family was broken apart because her otherwise loving father/’stepfather’ couldn’t pay the bills. Because of this she self-destructed and ended up losing her scholarship and free college tuition. The fact that people are being removed for “can’t pay

I think analyzing how we treat neglect is the most important thing. Physical and sexual abuse is already pretty hard to get a removal for and kids should absolutely be able to get out of a house where they are being beaten or molested. But removals bc a parent can’t pay the electric bill shouldn’t happen and waste

Roberts is aware that, despite all the evidence of injustice, abolition of the child welfare system can be hard to envision—but examples already exist. In the nation’s wealthy, white communities, rates of child welfare involvement are extremely low.

I think the insanity was more about the (extremely formal) circumstances/venue. If Will had been drinking in a bar somewhere and a guy mocked his wife’s appearance, and Will hauled off and smacked him, that would practically be considered business as usual.

as a chef explains to her in the new Discovery+ series, without large and expensive ventilation equipment, an in-house Benihana would cause the entire home to smell like steak.

I watched the documentary years ago, and I still remember her saying that she wouldn’t have had so many kids if she thought she’d have to raise them herself (paraphrasing).

That’s why they have the bowling alleys in their homes though. They don't have to do it with the riff raff.

When the poors talk about pitchforks, people like these are the pincushions.

when Jackie flies to Vegas for an event for Victoria’s Voice, the anti-addiction charity the family founded after their daughter died of an overdose,

I gotta say, I’m Kate’s age and literally the only dudes that ask me out these days are MUCH younger. Like, I can tell they are “young” (as in -er than me) but usually don’t figure out how much younger until they tell me. The youngest guy I’ve dated was about 14 years my junior. Maybe the only men that ask her out

“I switched baristas” is the most incredible rebuff in the history of rebuffs.

I love Kate for this reason. She’s been lowkey living her bad bitch best life for decades. Always out looking fly, doing fun things with a string of hot men on her arm. Total icon to moms everywhere.

I’ve got to stop this “Pete Davidson is hot” nonsense... he’s a pothead Jimmy Fallon (including laughing in all of his sketches). I’m not calling him ugly- I’m pointing out that he’s not in the same stratosphere as Jason Mamoa.

No. It isn’t fair. Kate Beckinsale gets all of the hot men. Seriously, her ex-list pretty much lines up with my fantasy list. WHY AM I NOT A SUPER HOT, FAMOUS, RICH WOMAN?????????

Jesus fucking christ! This is one of those times when I can’t help thinking Republicans aren’t 100% wrong about Liberals losing their minds with political correctness.

Let me interpret as a white lady suburban mom where drinking culture is prevalent and glorified:

It’s less a matter of cost than delivering something priceless.
Homegrown tomatoes will be better than anything you can get a a supermarket, and better than 90% of what you’ll get at a farmer’s market.
A cucumber fresh off the vine is a delight of freshness, with no wax on the skin.
Homegrown jalapeno peppers actually

She literally uses her low self esteem as an excuse for trying to destroy the self esteem of teenage girls. I really don’t think she gets it.

As an alcoholic who’s been sober for almost 5 years, I feel sorry for her and hope she gets the help she needs while she works on herself. But I can also say that it doesn’t sound to me like she hashit bottom.” There’s a whole lot of blame and justifications in that Medium article and not enough personal

No matter how often it’s used as a supposedly appropriate excuse, I will never understand the protestations of, “That’s not me! That’s not who I am! I would never do that!” It seems that it’s always exactly who the person is and exactly what they would do.  Because they did.
