The first cars didn't even come with factory hood ornaments. The hoods were either left plain or an auto club ornament or family coat of arms was used. Rolls-Royce didn't even start using their iconic emblem until the early 1920's almost 20 years after they began producing cars.
Holy turbo lag Batman
@electricworry: Maybe when they said like a rock they weren't referring to durability but they were actually advertising what the tailgate mechanism was made out of.
@Vman455: Rego Park in Queens
@moetop: It's pretty freaking amazing the tolerances in these parts to account for the crazy changes the engine goes through while its running.
Ohh sweet AOTD how I have missed you so
Needs moar shock diamonds
@cmdrfire: I think it's a Rolls-Royce Phantom III with Thrupp & Maberly bodywork.
@yoda2: The picture you picked is of an American built Rolls-Royce. The British drivers were such gentlemen that they had no need for bumpers. Also the steering wheel is on the left which is also a tell tale sign. But kudos to you for knowing that they built Phantoms before the monstrosity that they build today.

I think that one of my favorite James Hunt related Formula One stories is how Kimi sneaked off to Finland before the start of the season and entered a snowmobile race under the pseudonym of James Hunt so Ferrari management wouldn't find out. Even years after his death James Hunt was still bringing rule bending…
@BtheD19: According to Doug Fehan Corvette also ran out of fuel, they just happened to do so after the last corner. But hey it worked and they won so good for them. If there wasn't at least a bit of risk in racing it wouldn't be so exciting.
I just listened to an excellent interview of Doug Fehan over on radiolemans.com and it was really interesting to get a bit of an inside look into how the team is run and what this past season has meant to them.
Pete Krehbiel gets my vote for America's Next Top Car Blogger. At the very least he should get a guest appearance slot where he can document his project.
@Spiegel Hernandez, Doctor.: Nope, that was the sound of the CEO's neck snapping when he turned to look at the guy who just told him how much they spent developing this thing during a global recession.
VW just had a voluntary recall on some of their cars for incorrect emissions stickers so I got a nice new emissions sticker with my free car detailing.
@shinjukuDLJ: Is "My name is Trabant and my quarter panel is pick-axed" the Eastern European equivalent of "My name is Ram and my tank is full"?
@philibuster: I think that uncooperative is being generous. Subverting our efforts through back channel intelligence services supporting the Taliban is a bit closer in my opinion.
