Error in the article: The story “Killings” was by Andre Dubus. “Townie” was by his son, Andre Dubus III.

I am having similar feelings in another direction. I don’t know if I can watch this because I hate Phyllis Schlafly that much, and if Cate Blanchett does a good job portraying her, the rage may consume me entirely.

The other big industry in Hershey is health care. Why? Because when Penn State was looking to found its own medical school, the Hershey foundation offered a big chunk of money if they built it in Hershey. And they took them up on the offer.

(Hershey, by the way, is now probably the most expensive town to live in in

British fruitcake is usually covered in marzipan and icing. I’m American, my husband is British, and we had a fight about wedding fruitcake. He insisted. (As a postscript to that story, my in-laws saved the top tier, froze it, and served it at tea 8 years later.)

Black cake is fruitcake on steroids, though. It’s

My method for ultimate hot chocolate is to use both cocoa and chocolate. Dissolve the cocoa in boiling water, add milk and sugar, then when it’s hot, add chopped chocolate. Cocoa gives intensity and chocolate gives body and smoothness.

(Also, using half and half instead of milk is the trick to the best rice pudding.)

I’m partial to liqueurs. Grand Marnier and Frangelico both work nicely. (I don’t love Baileys, but if you do, that works. Or Kahlua.)

Višnjić himself immigrated to the US in his late 20s. Obviously, as an actor working in English, he worked hard on his English and accent--but I think it’s very plausible that Tesla’s accent wasn’t that strong.

I wouldn’t call Hershey Amish country. Lancaster is over-touristed, but it has meant a serious uptick in restaurant quality, so I am not complaining.

I live in that area, and I have heard people say, in total seriousness, that this isn’t really Pennsyltucky because we park our cars on the driveway.

I will say that if you think Harrisburg/Hershey is bad, you should drive north.

I’m Jewish, I don’t celebrate Christmas in any form, and I’ve always liked the Charlie Brown Christmas special. It’s unapologetic and honest. There’s no treacly sentiment about it. Technically, Linus is preaching, but it’s not the contemporary banging it into your head style. And it’s so different from most Christmas

Empire Kosher sells chicken fat in little tubs. At my Wegmans (not in the NYC metro area) it’s in the frozen kosher section.

The headline was accurate, since it says “affiliate,” but they really should have mentioned Sinclair in there.

I prefer challah to brioche for French toast. I think brioche is just a little too rich. I like a little sugar and/or some fruit, but if you like syrup, you do
you. I think it gets a little soggy unless you eat it quickly.

That said: The French do a lousy job at breakfast, so I don’t entirely take their opinions on

Definitely the Rovers over the Queen Vic, though what shall we do without Betty’s hotpot?

Agreed. Every store I know has fewer and fewer cuts. And they do things like “beef for stew” or “ground beef 80/20". I don’t just want to know if it’s fat or lean. I want to know, is this chuck or round? I personally prefer chuck for stew, and neck/tender for ground beef (which I am NYC enough to still call chop

One point about California: it has the lowest school bus ridership in the nation. Only 16% of CA students ride the bus, versus 57% nationally.

You want kids to show up on time? provide transportation. Most of my friends in CA are stuck in carpool and drop off nightmares.

(And before the comments come in: I don’t disagree with the main thrust of the piece; I just think that this needs to be corrected to improve Michael’s own understanding of the problem.)

“First, let’s be clear. Judaism is not a race. It is a religion.”

This isn’t true. Although you acknowledge that Jews are multiple races and ethnicities, we are not just a religion. This reduces Judaism to a set of beliefs. You can be an atheist Jew. Jews are a people. We don’t fit into a racial model or an ethnic one,

the other problem is, even if you have good insurance, a lot of the procedures she does are considered “cosmetic” and not medically necessary. Even in other countries, you’d have issues with them. (Not giant lipomas or abscesses, but a lipoma or cyst that’s not gigantic, not causing you pain, not infected—it’s not

The actual dictionary definition of racism is irrelevant in this case, because the right doesn’t care. This isn’t an honest debate about what does or doesn’t constitute racism. If it were, you’d see these people complaining about Trump. 90%of the people complaining about Sarah Jeong just want to be able to call
