Just watched this one, Diamondback has grown on me a bit, but oof he was rough in the previous episode. I'm not sure how I feel about the choice to make him such a scenery-chewing villain, other than it sets him apart from Cottonmouth, but I'm just not loving the actor so far. We'll see how the remaining ones go.

Oh hey, I also read some of the Hanna-Barbera books that DC is pumping out…

Did you enjoy Milligan's run on Hellblazer? Same writer. Very psychedelic from what I've read so far, but it has a really neat hook to open the series up. I'm excited to see where it goes. Great art from Chris Bachalo.

Next time, though I didn't chat about KC either, but that's cause I haven't read it in 20 years or something.

Most of Sandman Mystery Theatre beckons me, but after dropping 70 on Hellblazer, and 70 before on Shade, I gotta pull back…and well, read the stuff I actually bought.

Speaking of Ennis, there's a pretty sweet linewide Vertigo sale happening at Comixology right now. I bought 13 Hellblazer trades (I had the first one already), and excited to take that journey - though I still have to get through all those Shade The Changing Man issues I bought during the Young Animal sale! So many

It's funny, I was left a little cold by the Tynion/Doyle series. It never felt like John to me, though I loved the art. I should try it out again after I get through all these Hellblazers I just bought.

No joke, this is the best thing Marvel Television has done. Saw the first 7 episodes just ahead of SDCC and was pulled into them in a way I never was with Daredevil or Jessica Jones (the villain has a lot to do with it). Ya'll are in for a treat tonight/tomorrow/this weekend/whatever.

Currently working my way through the following Vertigo stuff, spurred on by my excitement from Young Animal:

Yeah, I was pretty hold and cold on it as well. The Joker arcs were particular low-points.

Lots of Image books tbh, stuff like East of West, Bitch Planet, Wytches, Kill or Be Killed.

Me too. I'd love to catch up on Thor if it ever goes on sale, but I'm not subscribing to Marvel Unlimited again anytime soon.

I can understand why someone would get bored with Marvel third acts. They're pretty anonymous and Civil War (and maybe Winter Soldier and Ant-Man) aside, there's very little to differentiate one from the other - those Cap movies at least have emotional throughlines to win the day. I expect all this to change with

I was bored out of my mind at that point, it was just visual white noise.

Up until the final act, I kinda dug what Batman v Superman was doing…then it regressed into boring action movie mode, but without the Marvel charm. Suicide Squad, on the other hand, had nothing to recommend at all.

I dunno, I'm having more fun with DC than I have in years, but I've kinda gotten to the point where I've tapped out on Image stuff largely (and their newest line has not one comic that appeals to me) and I just wanna read comics as comfort food. I've accepted that.

Guardian, and all the Canadian Captain America vibes it implies.

Yeah, the Rebirth issue in particular was a rougher starting point…intriguing, but not much plot there. The first issue proper was more engaging for me, and it's improved immensely from there.

Birds of Prey has atrocious dialogue, like some of the worst I've read this side of Scott Lobdell (and even he's got a better sense of character voices). Batgirl, which is slightly better, borders on a pretty sterotypical take on Japan, and Asia in a larger context, as she and this new boyfriend that's come out of

Speaking of which, Green Lanterns sure is a dumpster fire of a comic.
