First issue came out in November of last year, so it was definitely eligible. Marvel may not have submitted it though, which is a whole other thing.

And he didn't bother to mention that to anyone? Sheesh…

That's the biggest WTF of the episode for me, and there's quite a few of those.

I guess he was too mediocre?

No real horses in this race this year, but I actually like Southern Bastards a lot, so I hope that wins. And I kinda think Best Limited Series is a dumpster fire, The Fade Out aside.

He has a nice studio, we got to sleep in the apartment just above it and I blew out one of his Orange amps while laying down a track.

Sure, it and Manhattan Projects are the exception (and I really did adore MP for a good while there), the current volume is shit though.

Nothing all that exciting to talk about (we were called Overwhelmed), but here's a link to our Spotify that somehow is a thing that exists…https://play.spotify.com/album/6eGw…

Morrison also imbues everything with a sense of character and fully formed personality, even when it's his coldest, nastiest bits like Nameless and The Filth. I'd say 90% of Hickman characters do the Joss Whedon thing of sounding like their creator, which in Hickman's case makes them mostly sound stone dead inside.

agreed

Transmet never struck me as much more than Spider grabbing guys by the collar and yelling at them. I've read about 14 issues of it, and it feels like a "you had to be there" kind of book.

I'm biased because Matt produced my old band's record and was just the funniest guy ever, but this has always been a long-time favorite of mine, right there with Loveless.

I have, it's probably the only Ellis series that worked for me the entire way through.

I hear you! I guess it's that he kind of feels like a sexless Morrison to me if that makes any sense. I can see how that would appeal to those who don't care for GMo (and I know we've had that discussion before), but I find Hickman about as dry as I find Warren Ellis. But that's literally just me.

That's just it, I feel like he's really into concept but less so character. His Avengers run felt like a bunch of chess pieces that constantly had to be put into place for the next big status quo shift.

ahh! Wasn't aware of that (never use Tumblr), but I found it, and am more excited about his run now.

Gotta be honest and say I think I've officially tapped out on all things Hickman. The height of my appreciation of his work was during those first 15 issues or so of Manhattan Projects. Since then, I just can't muster up much passion for anything he does.

That stuff never lasts long in comics, Rucka had bad blood with DC too.

I was somewhat thinking perhaps he'd head over to DC for Rebirth, given their need to freshen things up a bit. But twas not to be.

Yeah, Material's sudden cancellation (though a book I didn't particularly love) kinda burned me on him a bit. Wolf never grabbed me the way I was hoping.
