There was perhaps a modicum of that, but the point was that these two people were obviously enjoying the freedom to be offensive, and crass, and say the most shocking things that came into their heads (without resorting to either racist or sexist insults). It was supposed to signify that they were experiencing freedom…
Out of all the characters on the show, Lindsay seems to come out as the one who is almost irredeemably nasty. She's selfish, egocentric and completely devoid of compassion. At least all of the others have a kind of excuse for their behaviour… I really hope that they do some rehabilitation on her character soon.

I would imagine that it's more likely that someone wanted to give Robbie the motivation to become Ghost Rider. He's made real angry, and then given the chance to get vengeance… could be an interesting exploration of his backstory.
