I will admit to being wrong on the money end re: her parents.

Google Maps is great as a GPS. If I wanted to use a calorie counter and stepmeter I’d use that.

Plenty of apps exist to count calories. Now can they be integrated into a walk is the question.

Which of the dozens of autism therapies did you try before you just said he had to deal with painful sensory information. I hear floortime is really effective to start with but I can’t really give you new options without knowing all the options you tried and why they didn’t work for your situation. Another thing

Yes, and measuring another person’s day in minicupcakes without their solicitation is absolutely the only way to anchor them in the real world.

Google Maps is the standard for pretty much everyone who uses navigation. Discussion not “done”, you incorrect garbage human.

Except we’re talking about kCals, not Calories. The science behind burning a kCal is not the same science behind raising one gram of water one degree Celsius.

...no. I recognize the language of a third or fourth year PhD student in the humanities or liberal social sciences, and therefore despite the obsfucation inherent in using such language on a site like Jezebel, I can actually understand what you’re saying, and also recognize that it isn’t smart.

Beer consumption was the first thing I thought of as well. This actually sounds like a pretty nice motivational tool for my mindset. Others may find other systems better, but when I am running, near the end I do think in terms of running a little bit longer will mean I can have an extra beer later.

They specifically state “Calories burned” — a measure that does vary from person to person. They didn’t redefine the unit of measure.

Actually, what we call a “calorie” is really a “kilocalorie,” or the amount of energy needed to raise one *kg* of water 1 degree C.

This scientist is laughing at whoever insisted that it’s calorie in = calorie out to you. Dude, you have no damn idea how complicated your metabolism is. It’s so amazing we’ve barely scratched the surface of how it all works, never mind the genes to control it all. But sure calories in = calories out. Cling to that

I use MyFitnessPal on my iPhone for this. I’m fortunate in that calorie counting has allowed me to lose over 45 pounds in the past 18 months. Making it an option is definitely key.

Those two people burn different amounts of calories breathing.

A calorie is simply a certain # of joules.

Number of beers consumed would be far more practical.

Wait a while, bring it back with the option of turning it off and the choice of food comparison or not. I’d make mine in number of beers consumed.

Calories burned varies by person so I don’t see how they could make this accurate without asking you at least your weight, it takes more force to move more weight (and only then it is approximate because people have different speeds, and different efficiencies). I eye my Fitbit with suspicion. It’s an okay guide but

First of all, mini cupcakes? That’s exactly the sort of snack a gaggle of Soylent-chugging gym nerds eternally cloistered in the amniotic sac of a Google conference room would assume we on the outside are shoveling into our maws

If no harm is intended, how come “mistakes” like these never happen in reverse? Why doesn’t the redhead turn into a black woman too if all they want to do is show their product works on everyone? Anyways why wouldn’t it work for everyone, it’s soap.
