The season of “You Must Remember This” on this film is pretty interesting. Why Splash Mountain featured this film in the first place -one that was controversial from the jump & only ever became profitable after several rereleases - is baffling.

That's not really true. The "You Must Remember This" podcast did a great series on the movie and explained how even in 1946 there were people who called it out as racist. There were even protests of movie theatres during the original run. So it is not like this was a movie that was socially acceptable when it came out…
