I think Kelley Wentworth definitely deserves a second chance though, she was really only voted out because of the swap and guilt by association since her father was on her new tribe. Granted, the superfans aren't shining this year but I think she would have better odds in a Second Chance season.

You said it exactly, no matter what they did, they were going to piss a group of people off. My take is they should have just tried to maintain the best story that they could, and if they don't answer every question, so be it.

These are two of my favorite hours of Season 3, both very strong stories and I find Left Behind to be one of the better Kate-centric episodes, although that's helped by the great B-story of Hurley conning Sawyer. Can't argue with either of those Mario choices, but my favorite for a long time has been Super Mario RPG. I would play that game from start to finish again just to hear that music and see the credits roll. Truly an epic ending.
