I wouldn’t even say it’s about lack of nuance so much as it’s trying to turn a subversion into something archetypal. That has never worked in media as it takes away the entire point of being a subversion. But that’s par for the course for guys like Nojima, Kitase, and Nomura. They’ve been trying to play revisionist…
Yeah, it’s a complete mess. The game has basically entered the “you must read the wiki to understand the plot!” school of storytelling
The end product was a trilogy and it is remembered as a trilogy. And the films truncated stuff, they didn’t pad it out.
No, no they will not. Because FF’s dev cycles since FFXII have been completely fucked
Remake Part Two: Sephiroth jumps around different timelines while drinking a smoothie
Yeah, it was all in the execution of how he was introduced (in fact, I STILL haven’t seen another game do it that way). It also helps that the way he’s written makes him highly magnetic. Casting aside all that ambiguity from the original shows they don’t understand why Sephiroth is still unbeaten as a villain. This is…
That’s a load of bull. We all know the REAL reason they stuck him in there: because he’s the most popular character in the game by far and there would have been nonstop whining if he was absent.
And then EVERYTHING about Nibelheim which makes you think he might just be an anti-hero but in fact is infinitely worse than Shinra. Who he just carved up like sashimi. Fucking HELL
MGS 2 is fucking brilliant. And Raiden was a great character who too many in gaming (including the press) were eager to throw Japanophobic and homophobic insults at.
God, he was one of the great trickster voice actors. Hell, he was actually Robert Downey Jr.’s longtime Japanese dub actor since the first Iron Man.
Starting off Part Two explaining Sephiroth really would have been a way to begin things outside Midgar. Or, make the flashback the ending of Part One and leave the audience off on that feeling of dread.
The difference is that The Two Towers and Return of the King were already shot by then and the only things needed after that were pickups and post production. Part Two of this isn’t even in production.
Yeah, it’s so overdone. It would have been more interesting to just keep him vague and maybe leave him for the stinger.
And by doing so they’ve basically annihilated a lot of what made him unique. The thing about Sephiroth’s intro was that it was so unexpected. Forget about seeing him, you barely hear about him until the Shinra building where things go haywire. And it’s a preview of what he’s capable of, having annihilated an entire…
It’s about time that Sony and MS learn that there is only so much you can brute force. The technological leaps are only going to get more and more minute people, it’s time to start thinking of DESIGN instead of TECHNOLOGY.
What a load of shit
Kubo wasn’t the only character designer either; they brought on Noizi Ito, Yukiko Horiguchi, Bun-Bun, Shigenori Soejima, and even Ken Sugimori (of Pokemon) to design the other characters. And of course you can’t forget Kohei Tanaka in the composer seat who actually got to use a full orchestra for the soundtrack.
They’re not dubbing it, probably because of the niche appeal. Plus try casting actors who also have to sing a variety of different genres.
