Agreed. I came here for a summary about a NY Times alien article and instead had to get through a few paragraphs of name calling, swearing, and puns before getting to what the headline implied the article would be about.

I don’t know why VFDs are loud, but I know standing next to a 100 hp rated one going 50 Hz in the land of 60 Hz it will set your teeth on edge. 

I would also wonder about how they are controlling the motors.  Industrial VFDs will scream too.  Not that loud, because the Safety guys will throw a fit but a similar tone.
