Rear-facing jumpseats have been around as long as the wagon. They were popular from the 1950s through the 1970s, so unless the concerned citizen was young enough to ride in the Tesla’s jumpseats, they’re just ignorant of history.
I’ve done brakes, oil changes, and smaller stuff on our LR3, and yes it is cheaper (and time consuming), but things like a disk/drum rear brake system that had to be adjusted when the rotors are installed make it a hassle, even after you get it right the third time. Oil changes are easy but removing the skid plates…

My wife loved her 1998 Discovery, and though it was the definition of British reliability, it was easy to work on and parts were cheap. You can hit speedbumps at highway speeds in the original Disco, and nothing (other that it’s own dismal reliability) could stop it.
I had a Tercel wagon in high school. Mom thought it better than Dad’s idea of a Corvair... My wife and I spent many a night “camping” in that car.
