Why does ANYONE still give a $%#@ about this?

Almost every '70's Hollywood Wunderkind crashed & (damn near) burned with a personal epic during that period. Scorsese ("New York, New York"), Bogdanovich ("At Long Last Love"), Spielberg ("1941"), Friedkin ("Sorcerer"), and Coppola ("Apocalypse Now").

I watched the restored "Heaven's Gate" (Criterion blu-ray) about six months ago. Say what you will about how much Cimino spent on making the movie every penny (appears to be) onscreen. Personally, I quite liked the movie and it has a number of astonishing set pieces.

Bingo.

"Moonraker" fluctuates between inspired & D.U.M.B. from beginning to end sometimes in the same scene (the opener for one). No way is it Moore's dumbest or worst. That would be "Octopussy" or "From A View To A Kill".

I have not. I'll give it a look. Thank you!

I stand corrected. Fixed. Thank you!

For those unaware, Gustav Hasford is Jason Aaron's (cousin). Jason is author of the monumental "Scalped" and his own mind-bending Vietnam book, "The Other Side" from Vertigo. Dig it.

Dispatches is required reading. Remarkable.

In fairness, the Pats were godawful for decades.

Didn't like it as much as the first, but if Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga keep showing up for more so will I.

"Howdy."

Newspaperman: "Isn't it true that an accident in your west coast nuclear plant could stimulate seismic activity in the San Andreas fault, which could destroy most of southern California?"

"Heaven Can Wait" has a lovely, but heart wrenching ending. When Corkle realizes Joe is gone (again) the waterworks start. Then, Joe meets Julie Christie in the stadium tunnel. After a brief chat she hits with the realization that, "You're the quarterback." Boom. More tears, but with a big damn smile. So great.

You aren't wrong. I re-watched "The Longest Yard" a few months back. Still great. Easily one of Burt's greatest performances. It's one of Robert Aldrich's best films, too. The DVD had a trailer for the remake and all I could do was look at it slack jawed. Supremely misguided (to say the least).

"Here Comes, Mr. Jordan" AND "Heaven Can Wait" are great.

"Blow Out" is one of the all-time great thrillers by anyone in anytime.

A true unsung classic.

The most entertaining movie I've seen this year. A real joy. Only De Palma. Only his films from the first to the last.

Watched this again last night. James Best turns in one of the all time great sleaze performances (in a movie packed with great sleaze performances).
