I got so sick of the Vonn stuff - so much hype and so overdone. Every moment of quasi dead air was filled with some sort of Vonn tribute video and between these were the commercials featuring Vonn hawking something.

This is a major pet peeve of mine during the games. The entire woman’s alpine skiing broadcasts, mens snowboarding half-pipe, and woman’s snowboarding half-pipe is spent discussing 1 American in each event. If Vonn’s skiing...she’s all they discuss. If Schiffren is skiing she’s the topic. Same for Shaun White and…
This isn’t his fault, but I got really annoyed at the part where they showed the run of the woman who went immediately after Vonn, and then as soon as she was done they cut to a slow-mo replay... of Vonn’s run. Fuck that!
You know, he’s ok. He’s really not doing anything special. He’s got a good voice, but not a great one, not the best we’ve heard. It’s just, these early conditions set up to make it much easier to quarter-ass your way through an analyst gig that you really don’t deserve.
counterpoint: the stuffed tiger is adorable and i want one
It was complete drivel talking about how beautiful things were. They gave nothing of substance that expanded the performance. They mostly took away making it impossible to hear the music, talking or singing.
When the Olympics roll around I always remind people to find the CBC or BBC feeds if they can.
They also spent a large portion of the time introducing OTHER countries talking about American athletes which was incredibly annoying. Oh here’s Ghana? Rather than tell you about their single athlete or anything interesting about the country, let us tell you AGAIN that America has one athlete born in Ghana.
Im guessing the precedent is perhaps the Cbc’s Superior coverage where they, gasp, don’t act like there’s only one country in attendance... Socialism!
There was no need for that first half hour. I was really annoyed and kept switching back and forth with other shows hoping for them to start the dam program but it just kept going. And the constant talking during the ceremony just seems to talk down to the audience, like we can’t pick up the themes unless they…
You can’t play to not lose, especially in the Super Bowl. Those playcalls were gutsy, ingenious, bold, and they made the difference.
Tom Brady: somehow the one white guy on the Pats who *can’t* catch a pass
Well most, if not all, teams have sections of their support that are prone to “unsavoury” behavior, but when it’s coming from the board, then it’s actually just depressing more than anything.
The same West Ham whose supporters like to mimic gas chamber noises when they play Spurs and made slant eye gestures at Son Heung-Min? Shocked, I tells ya.
Or when someone says “Let’s take this offline.” MOTHERFUCKER IF WE’RE NOT IN THE SAME LOCATION IT’S STILL GOING TO BE ONLINE, JUST SAY WE’LL TALK ABOUT IT LATER!!!
I’m younger but had similar experiences being the oldest of three. Couldn’t watch Cartoon Network (but Nickelodeon was permitted oddly, and grandpa let us watch just about whatever we wanted); had my Harry Potter books taken because ‘witchcraft’; couldn’t watch PG-13 movies or play t-rated games until I was 13-14…
As a parent I can understand making it as difficult as possible for your kids to do or watch something you don’t want them to via the ‘not under my roof’ rule, but have no illusions whatsoever that their friends’ more permissive parents are going to let them go right ahead. Unless it’s something I feel that strongly…
>by the time my younger siblings came around, Mom and Dad stopped making a big deal about that sort of stuff.
Azathoth!
Michael Myers as Wayne Campbell. “Cha, yeah, as if that were a knife!”
