From XL/2097 on they more-or-less got rid of that. When you hit walls in all subsequent games (except Fusion, which had a lot of other issues) your ship will scrape the side rails and you’ll gradually slow down the longer you touch the walls, instead of coming to a dead stop if you barely tap them.

Yup, that’s the one thing that always annoyed me about the original, I can’t tell you how many races I lost in the last lap because I barely touched a wall and stopped dead.

Maaan, almost everything about WipeOut 1 was perfect, except the touch the edges and your speed drops to 0. :p
