I know there are many updates to come before the story is truly finished, but it feels like I’m definitely walking toward some sort of ending here.

Imagine shitting on Graham Norton, who is one of the few talk show hosts to create an environment in which his celebrity guests can just be people, with mostly just gentle prods from him. There’s a reason why both British and American celebrities love going on, and why he gets American guests who won’t even go on…
You can also hear Jean Shepherd as the voice of the Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney World. And you can see and hear him in the movie as the bearded guy who says to Ralphie, “The line ends here! It begins there!”
He gets to be canonically one of the captains of the USS Enterprise; that’s not too bad. (It was the least remarkable one and he was a squirrely paper-pusher who was only there to show how great Kirk was—another of those second banana roles—but still.)
I heard all about the server issues on Sunday night, but I don’t care enough to fight for a ticket through that kind of frustration. Then just out of curiosity, I checked on Monday morning. Early release day, on the 16th, 8:10 pm... prime movie time. Theater in a major metro hub. There were like... eight tickets sold.
I…
Actually I always just thought of it in the comics as a metanarrative celebration of brains. As in, “Here are the smart, nerdy guys, and they’re the ones who get the powers because science”. At least that’s how Marvel created many of their classic heroes and villains outside of X-Men, and even they have a lot of smart…
That’s just on screen, though. Presumably things happen to these characters between movies, and that’s when they do their “everyday” superheroing: apprehending purse snatchers and whatnot. At least that’s how I’d think they would approach it.
Ehhhh he did less wisecracking and more “I’m so sorry to be doing this, I’m a big fan, really!” Which made sense then, because it’s not a great look to introduce Spider-Man by having him mock Captain America or Black Widow. But as time goes on, we haven’t really seen him shift away from that.
Cool, I guess. This has been kind of my least favorite version of Spider-Man, though. I mostly like Tom Holland but I think his version of Spidey could use a shot of the wisecracking confidence that usually defines the character. Peter can only go so long on that clueless new guy “just happy to be here” energy. I also…
I’m hoping that when RTD takes the show back over he slows things back down a bit. I’ve been rewatching some the first four series, and it’s remarkable how much more room they give their plots to breathe: actors speak a little more slowly and clearly, the plots are simpler and easier to grapple with, and they’re far…
I will never understand the confusion around not centering an entire film around Charles Martinet’s high-pitched and heavily accented version of Mario. His performance is fine for hoots and brief filler exclamations, but 90 or so minutes of actual dialogue in that voice would become grating very quickly.
Like yeah, ok,…
It’s unfortunate that the story should contract down to the destiny of two characters as the season draws to a close. Not because their stories are bad, necessarily, but because it’s a narrative that is already being done in countless instances elsewhere and doesn’t play on the singular qualities of a property…
I am really hoping they add VR support to this at some point, because damn, this software was an unforgettable experience, and it’s one I feel would benefit tremendously from VR.
Be all that as it may, I think the title could probably use some kind of identifier. But it’s also not anything even close to a big deal, so I’m also not inclined to get into some kind of back-and-forth about it.
We’ve got HBO, so give me Larry David.
Yes? It’s not about corporate branding. A good name should convey some sense of what you should expect out of the game. Super Smash Bros. does this because it calls Mario to mind. MultiVersus is a clever name but could have been used by any media company.
MultiVersus is a bad name, that’s our take? Oh come on. I think the only failing is that it doesn’t identify WB as the multiverse in question.
FTP doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but I’m willing to give it a shot. The visual style isn’t as clashy as these various characters could be.
Even DS9 told lots of smaller stories even in its later seasons. Its serialization was loose at best. I feel like that would be a perfect format for Trek nowadays.
Seriously. I love LeVar Burton and really wanted him to do well, but he was not a natural as Jeopardy host, a fact which even this very site acknowledged? Do this site’s writers read each other?
I’ve read so many bad takes across GHP sites this month, even just this morning, that I hardly recognize this place anymore.
I mean ok, yeah, I guess speeding up the whole game does technically improve the framerate. But isn’t that true of any retro game?
