It's definitely not trying to make fun of it, and IMO it's one of the weakest parts of a great movie. (It's a boring scene, and it's hard for the viewer to tell what's significant in the images.)

One of the things that bugs me about The Expanse, much as I love it, is that the spacecraft control panels are basically an iPad on a swivel mount. It won't be long before people look at that and go "Ugh, that is *so* 2015".
