i very often agree with AV Club appraisals of films and TV, but not on this show (and most of Dennis Perkins’ SNL recaps)

Not a single decent period drama on TV back then!

“Is subjective experience real or is the reviewer wrong?” - the greatest thread in the history of AV Club, locked by a moderator after 12, 239 pages of heated debate

The same IOC that let sexual predators run amuck...that IOC is trustworthy?

I’ve watched all three of the available episodes, and so far she comes off smelling like a rose in this. Pamela is not portrayed as a bitch, a bimbo, or a slut. She’s shown as a woman with friends, a career, hopes, and the desire to settle down and be a mom. There’s even a scene where she’s being interviewed by a

Given the context, it’s hard to imagine how anything she says at this point could be taken at face value. She’s in an authoritarian state, and presumably she’s going to say what she has to in order to survive.

In a Monday press conference, IOC spokesperson Mark Adams confirmed to reporters that the IOC keeps in touch with Peng, but said he doesn’t think the situation is “for us to be able to to judge, in one way, just as it’s not for you to judge either.”

he doesn’t think the situation is “for us to be able to to judge, in one way, just as it’s not for you to judge either.””

No, I think it very much is, and now let’s judge him for this cowardice as well.

And I sincerely can’t tell if The Party expect people inside or outside China to view these hostage videos as sincere or if we’re supposed to acknowledge them as a testament to the power of The Party.

Everytime I read something about Peng Shua giving an interview or minimizing her accusations, all I see in my mind is the equivalent of this :

Terrifying. She is being disappeared in plain sight

I won’t be watching this so I don’t actually know what the angle on this show is, but I did look further into the contractor situation. If anything we should be talking about how Lee didn’t pay the guy, then pointed a shotgun at him when he came back to get his tools. And then Lee had sent Hells Angels after him.

Seems a bit much. They were both single, divorced, long time collaborators, execs. It’s not great but this feels out of proportion.

Was he ever a wonderful human though?

I really like Bell and I want to watch this. I also don’t want to watch this. I couldn’t finish “Leaving Neverland”. This series is interesting for so many reasons and I know I’ll at least try to stomach most of it.

This documentary was advertised to me on social media. At least 75% of the comments on the post were defending Cosby, mostly insinuating the victimized women were whores who were asking for it. At first I was shocked. I knew there were a few hold outs for Cosby, but I had no idea just how many.

This was such a triggering line for me: “I never said what he specifically did to me,” she tells Bell in the series. “I couldn’t, I couldn’t even think about it. Because you use the words, then you have the images, then you have the feelings, and then you are washed with self-loathing.”

I would like to matter in a big, grand way.”

Terrific work!

Maladaptive behaviors create what I imagine to be rutted little canals in our wiring, like scratched up dive bar tables (yes, hi, I’m Danielle, and I’m an alcoholic).
