I wouldn’t be surprised. That character has been so poorly utilized by this show and Ruth Wilson’s talents have been utterly wasted there as well. The season touched on greatness a few times this season, but I felt the writers couldn’t help but frequently walk into classic “The Affair” nonsense.

There were 1-2 good episodes of this season, but overall I still wonder episode to episode why this show is still on the air. I also think the second season was ex post facto diminished by the third (as in, watching the third made me realize that season two just happened to be good, but they had no idea what they were

You mean she thinks the show sucks and doesn’t want to be apart of it anymore? I don’t doubt that, but that seems inconsistent with the statement “there’s a much larger story,” don’t you think? Or have I been watching too many conspiracy shows?

Slightly off-topic but potentially relevant: does anyone have any info as to why Ruth Wilson is leaving The Affair? The show is really bad right now (and has been for quite a while), but she keeps making comments like this and it’s super weird. I WANT THE DETAILS!

Wait - why? He seems addicted to marrying people, sure, but while he was on the show he was pretty great to Yolanda.

Link? That sounds...not right to me. Though it might come from the fact that white women will date/marry a black successful man, but white men tend not to marry black successful women. Idk, I’d be interested to read it.

Hotel I disliked when I watched it week to week. I actually stopped halfway through the season. Then I was sick at home for a few days and sat down and binged the whole season and ended up loving it when consumed so quickly.

I could not finish Freakshow, which was just so dull and aimless but did have a fun episode with that Edward Mordrake business. Ugh. And then Cult? Couldn’t get past 2-3 episodes of that nightmare.

Thank you!

Who am I kidding? Half the fun is complaining once it goes off the rails. I’ll be watching!

Can we actually talk about how that movie is a miracle? When you stop and think about what it’s about, HOW IN THE WORLD WAS THAT MOVIE MADE?! The music is beautiful and I love the film, but every aspect of it is actually pretty fucked up.

Further, I think a lot of these “flaws” are not so much furthering stereotypes as much as they are allowing Mulan to confront what is reality, whether we like it or not.

That claim is weird, right? It made me feel so uncomfortable. Like sure, maybe she’s telling the truth, but if so what does that add to the conversation? Did he do it without your knowledge? Likely not. And if she’s lying, well. Fuck her.

In the past few years she has consistently behaved in ways that are questionable. She just talks smack about half the rap industry and makes excuses for everything. It’s been a slow shift to people turning on her, but as someone who was once ambivalent but believed she had a lot of potential, I’m pretty anti-Nicki

Great write-up, Emily. Just a heads up, this post isn’t showing up on the TV Club main page. Is there a different link from https://tv.avclub.com/ that we should use to see all the TV Club articles?

I agree. I understand the need for more and more revenue (duh), but can’t they just renegotiate their licensing deals to get more money instead to pushing consumers away or toward illegal downloads? All this platform expansion seems like it will hurt the companies long-term.

No, I think Kim reacted that way because of how she blew up at Howard last episode. She thought the letter was going to be absolutely horrible, and then Chuck went on to say all these nice things. I think her reaction was more relief/disbelief in addition to reacting to Jimmy’s lack of reaction.

But, assuming it all went down like she said, it’s worth remembering that RuPaul’s job is to host RuPaul’s Drag Race, not be a mother to a dozen or so people who were cast on his show—no matter how emotionally invested we, the viewers, might be in that narrative.

It’s SO rewarding!
