Elite Dangerous does have a big enough "world" where adding very rare "Anomalies" would add a sense of mystery to the game. Like you see in the GTA games. The developers should really look into this.

Crane once realised that he relied to much on his gas while he was an Arkham inmate. Then he drove some inmates of Arkham into suicide just by whispering in the water pipes. The gas just makes it easier for him.
