I think it goes deeper than that, but yeah. Another facet, at least insofar as gamers I’ve met/research in the US are concerned, is a complete and utter unwillingness to think critically about the media they consume that seems endemic to the kind of gamers we usually described as having “brain worms”.

It wouldn’t happen, because television is just so much different than it was back then. The equivalent would be, like, all the secondary characters from MLP being brutally magicked away—instead of killed, obvs—or to open the next Avatar cartoon with the entire cast of Korra being killed offscreen.
