Las idiomas cambian, amigo. The point of the term isn’t to rob you of your identity, it’s to help others—like you said in the first sentence—feel more included. Ya. And it’s not just a “younger Latinos,” thing; this has been a term that’s evolved—from writing Latin@ online to things like the term Latine—over the

There are people who are referred to as Latin American who don’t consider themselves Latin American—re: indigenous peoples from South America, for example. That, and in Spanish, Latino Americano isn’t gender-neutral; which is why the term Latinx was coined in the first place.

Most of them don’t cause death and destruction, though. That’s the entire point. The ones we hang out with all have powers that can kill—for the most part—but, before House of M wiped out 99% of the mutant population, mutants with actually lethal powers were in the minority.

And, like grammar has all throughout the world and throughout history, the people who speak and use the language want to change some of its grammatical rules.

Latin America works in English, though. Because when you say it in Spanish it still brings up the thing Latinx tries to avoid—which is gendering people.

It’s a term that Latino/a activists came up with in order for gender-nonconforming individuals to be able to refer to themselves without having to go through the trouble of gendering themselves.

I mean, the comics themselves ignore that he’s half-Puerto Rican (let’s be specific) all the freaking time, to the point of--last time I checked--not even the official Marvel wiki lists it as part of his nationality/identity.

Has something changed in the Latino community? Everything I’ve ever read from native Latinos has stated that the vast, vast majority of them utterly despise the term “Latinx” and consider it an insult to their culture. It seems like the only ones who truly keep pushing it are those who speak English as their first

We’re here, we’re queer, and we’re play videogames.

I’m so glad we share a first name.

My bad for not having a giant cup and piece of paper to shoe the extradimensional eldritch arachnid out of the door.

Rom was possibly the worst boss to fight just because, well.

That’s really sad to hear. I know the new game has female characters that are on your RPG-weird-is-this-a-hallucination-team; but you’d think a series that has everything from psychics to assassins to just like

I mean, if that’s the way the creator feels then that’s how they feel. But, acting like there aren’t badass female characters in Yakuza that Kiryu both admires and acknowledges he would have a hard time beating—Miss Tatsu comes to mind—is a little strange.

Humor is subjective, yeah. I’m pretty sure no one is meaning to hurt others with this particular joke; but as much as we’re being understanding in that regard, we also have to be understanding with those for which this isn’t a joke and the next 24hrs feel like a potential death sentence.

It’s a normal response. What’s important is understanding that humor goes both way, which I’m sure you know.

For a lot of people, the next 24hrs will determine every aspect of the next 4 years to the rest of their lives.
