If there is a significant tactical advantage to using these remotely operated tanks, the tech will catch up to the need.

I’m not sure I agree with the analysis. If the biggest problem with this idea is that the communications has to be short range or line-of-sight, that’s something that can be fixed. Heck the US can fly drones from thousands of miles away, I don’t see why we (or they) couldn’t do the same with a tank.
