Isn’t the point of the article simply that because most people buy what they want, and most pickup truck buyers want way more than they need, this particular pickup truck will not sell well. I think you glossed over that a bit with your admittedly funny reply.
He’s not criticizing that people buy what they want so much as pointing out that it will be a problem for a truck that perfectly addresses what they need rather than what they want.
