My closest dealer has had a couple of 35th Anniversary editions for about a week. I am definitely waiting on the Autobahn trim and likely will wait until the end of the year for a discount. Our 2017 GLI DSG was under 24K on the last day of the calendar year.

Great point, and as a starving grad student / teacher in those years I couldn’t afford to drive one of those cars in the 90s/2000s. I think I can now :-)

Sport sedans are my favorite type of car. I used to own a Suzuki Kizashi which was both beautifully styled and really fun to drive, while still having a very comfortable interior and being extremely affordable. Yes it was only 185 horsepower and yes it was front wheel drive, but considering my first two vehicles ever

Got one in Autobahn trim today, discounted about 1500 from MSRP. Test drive made me fall in love, and they look so much better in person.

Some people, like me, just prefer the form factor. It’s also significantly cheaper. About 6K in the Autobahn trim.

I will likely buy one of these. I will wait until the Autobahn version hits the dealerships because I like all the extra stuff you get with that trim. I wish the US would get the Canadian version of the 35TH anniversary edition which comes on the Autobahn trim there. I like the wheels on the 35TH and the DCC on the

Thank you. It’s like the new Acura designs; just very awkward an incohesive. Like the front end was designed for an SUV and just stuck on.

I live in Chicago and sometimes drive to visit my brother and his family in Atlanta. It’s a little out of the way, but I always leave Atlanta driving north on 400 toward Knoxville. I always go on a weekday. Not much traffic up there and the car and motorcycle clubs aren’t crowding the place. If I get stuck behind a

I appreciate that this has a better mpg rating than the A3 Quattro.

I like these cars a lot.  Puts me in mind of the A3/RS3.  Germans know how to build cars.  I’m guessing it drives really well.  Wife had a Wolfsburg Jetta back in the day and that thing was a hoot.

I loved my Jetta GLI. I had the MK V which did come with plaid seats. It had decent power, practicality and was fun to drive. The red accents looked good but didn’t scream boy racer. I still miss that car.

It’s a sedan, it’s apparently sporty and fun to drive. How is it not a sports sedan?

Those would be the most direct competitors. I wouldn’t drive a Civic if someone gave the ugly thing to me, nor a Mazda3, so we zero each other out.

The thing about modern performance cars is they’re all so damn fast it’s really hard to get anywhere near the limit on public roads. It’s also really unwise. I mean, I imagine running an M5 near the limit on this road would be just terrifying.  This thing occupies that sweet-spot that old fogies like me remember being

What would those parameters be then?

It looks better in black than it does in chrome on the regular Jettas, at least.

Honestly, I like the design of the new Jetta. It looks sharp. It looks interesting.

If you’re a grown-ass adult who doesn’t determine your own self-worth by the badge your car wears on its stupidly agressive nose,

I’ve been eyeballing one of these since they were announced.

For some reason, I’m more excited to drive this than the Stinger. I’m sure price has much to do with that, but there is something very homey about this car... it’s not trying to redefine a brand or trying to be a lux car. It’s tech doesn’t appear overwhelming.
