Reminder: This is the asshole in Iowa who has miniature Confederate flags on his desk. Iowa was on the side of the Union during the Civil War. Displaying that flag alone as a Union state member signals out and out racism, not Southern Pride. Especially if you were born and raised in Iowa your entire life. Not even

Rep. Steve King.

I love reading posts like this. When I left an abusive (physical and emotional) marriage in 1977, there was so very little support for women back then. I couldn’t get a loan from my bank on my own. I couldn’t get anything that even resembled a credit card on my own. No financial independence available.

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I updated everyone. Several months ago I started posting about my abusive marriage and really appreciated everyone’s support as I prepared to leave. Now I am here to update everyone that I have been gone a little over 3 months. I am in my dream apartment. It might not be much to

Buying a Thompson submachine gun in the 1920s was cost over $2000 in 2018 dollars. And thats not including the ammunition.

Even going back to the 70's and early 80's, the most common type of civilian owned firearms were revolvers with a six bullet capacity and relatively slow reload time and rifles of varying calibre for hunting, usually with either a bolt action which gives one shot before reloading or a five round magazine.

This is how to be an ally. Recognizing one’s privilege, and not feeling guilty and defensive about , but using it to help bring some other people’s truths to the light, and calling out the ignorance at the same time.

They came prepared, too. They came prepared with a diversity of speakers, from different cities, with different stories – but in service of a common goal, to fight for something better

Nor did people have handy access to anything but hunting rifles in general, and bullets were expensive.

I’d say the idea that the guns themselves have haven’t changed is also bullshit. In 1918 we didn’t have guns capable of mass destruction on the level of and AR 15.

He flatly refused to consider that guns have anything to do with it: “50 and 100 years ago, children did not slaughter other children at school. What has changed? It isn’t the gun.”

It isn’t just consensual sex workers who are opposed to this bill. Anti-trafficking groups and trafficking survivors themselves are also opposed to it. There are several good articles about that, and the bill in general, here:

People pretty openly use dating apps for “hookups” do they not? Is it only a matter of time before Tinder and Grindr shut down out of an “overabundance of caution”?

I don’t see how eliminating an advertising platform will have effect on the demand or supply. Wouldn’t the trafficking just sink deeper into the black market-and be sold the same way other contraband things are sold. This type of legislation seems like political showmanship that will have little effect on the real

Who makes that call?

Yikes. I don’t understand the “if we build it, they will come!” attitude to recruitment. You find the right candidates by going to recruitment fairs, talking to associations geared towards POC and women (and even WOC!), finding out where they look for jobs.

AT least we don’t have to include a headshot and our marital status, like in France. Seriously, imagine having to put “divorcee” at the top of your resume.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

No. It’s not an exception and they don’t really judge on concrete measures. Tech fields are some of the worst for viewing women as less qualified.

Ewww! Smart? That means she’ll demand equal pay and complain about being hit on! How unlikable!
