I haven’t seen a lot of these movies, but the discussion of Blockers is so shallow and in such bad faith, it’s hard for me to take the other criticisms seriously.

God I wish these two would both fuck off into obscurity.

Also, a transperson not communicating their status to a partner until clothes are being shed is decidedly NOT a good idea. That’s how people get killed.

I agree. This Meek sociologist seems to be overthinking a bit— and putting way too many complex adult views onto teens.

The main thing I remember about all the teen sex comedies from the 1980s was how little they resembled the actual sex lives of me and the other teenagers I knew.

Yeah, I guess available phd topics are getting thin because this entire thesis is completely half-baked. Teenagers’ takes on relationships and sexuality are an inexperienced, uneducated mess (making them great fodder for comedies) and to treat kids like they should be bringing a 35 year-old’s perspectives and understan

Mean Girls (2004), for instance, didn’t at all ponder the implications of an adult having sexual relationships with minors”

I repeat: I honestly didn’t think much about these scenes or any deeper implications they might hold. They’re cute and goofy, and I’m an adult woman who’s traded in high school crushes for a far less cute dating hell. But they certainly stuck out to Michele Meek, author of the new book Consent Culture and Teen Films:

Can you point to where Holland and Downey Jr publicly trashed the writers?

I mean, I’m kind of hoping she’ll show that she can both take a joke and realizes that maybe her comments weren’t necessarily articulated in the best possible way and show up on the line! Plenty of actors have already.

I dont think she is doing that at all, really.

Pretty confident that the dude with the sign was using “Punch Up” as in “punch up the script,” seeing that she said that she was rewriting i.e. “punching up” her lines.

Ah, she’s following the old Joss Whedon playbook (uh... but presumably without all the sexual harassment): I wrote everything you liked, and everything you disliked was somebody else’s fault.

you can talk about the job you do without highlighting the ways your colleagues fell short. “i crossed out whole pages of dialogue” could so easily be reframed as “i was given a lot of freedom to add my own thoughts to the character.” same underlying truth, but presented in a way that doesn’t step on any toes. a

“20 years old” and “girl” are not compatible concepts. she’s an adult woman who ran her mouth, and whose punishment is...some pretty mild ribbing that will be instantly forgotten

The nameWednesday” is derived from the name of Odin, another spelling/pronunciation is Woden. So, Woden’s Day became Wednesday.”

“Punching up” as in “punching up a script”, what she claims to have done with the original script for Wednesday.

20 years old with 10,000 x the pay of the average writer she just said sucks at their jobs.

I genuinely can’t tell from some of these comments whether they’re being intentionally self-deprecating and humorous (you know, to show off the wit you’re losing by not having professional writers) or genuinely embittered. “Rewriting is writing! See you at the line, Jenna!” gives real passive-aggressive energy, but “Wi
