I dunno if others would agree, but I'd recommend starting with his more recent stuff; he started becoming a much, much better writer around All Tomorrow's Parties, in my opinion. Since that's the back end of a trilogy (though like Yumzux says, you're pretty fine reading them on their own), maybe go with the Pattern…
