I know it’s an unpopular take, but I agree with you, especially on the plea deal part. I said this is another comment, but if this didn’t involve possible domestic violence then it’s entirely possible that Deadspin takes that exact angle, and we get a longread on “young black athlete is viewed as a criminal for taking

I don’t know that it was a 100% given he would do it this way with ANY team, but yes, your interpretation is the real story here and a big whiff by Giri. Even when people thought he might sign with Toronto they were suggesting that he might do a 1+1 type of deal so that he could cash in at the 10 year mark.

Yeah, there is definitely an alternate universe version of this where there is some evidence that Hill is telling the truth and that is the topic Deadspin chooses to focus on.

Read my post again; I said I knew of the movie. But to be explicit I hadn’t seen it. I still don’t particularly think the .gif really looks like him, even though I’ve known it’s him for a while now.

I knew about the movie Jeremiah Johnson.  I did not know Redford was Johnson, or that this guy was Johnson, until a while back.  It still sort of blows my mind because I don’t totally see Redford’s face there, but I guess I’ve gotten used to the idea at least in principle.

I didn’t see in the article that it said 1st class, just “more leg room”—it may have merely been a swap from economy to economy plus (or whatever the equivalent is on this airline)? Maybe no 1st class seats were available?  Just throwing that out there.

Of my many thoughts on this blog, this was possibly foremost in my mind.

Jordan’s second retirement in 1998 maybe? Not a great analogy but possibly fits what you say.

That brings that tweet to EXACTLY to 140 characters...which I thought was no longer necessary?

Left is my default but I’ll definitely switch it up for long calls or under certain conditions.

“Availability is a skill” which is why beating a depleted team shouldn’t come with an asterisk.  The Warriors took advantage of it in past years (2015 Finals, 2017 WCF) and if it does indeed get them in this series the Raptors shouldn’t get to celebrate any less.

To me it’s 95% that the Raptors finish this off UNLESS a HEALTHY Durant comes back, and it looks like that’s not on the table.  Remaining 5% is that this depleted Warriors team can still catch fire, injuries could strike the Raps, whatever.

Obviously, in football those injuries are incidental and unintentional and in fighting sports it’s one of the objectives, but shouldn’t that make it even more distasteful?

The statement is just a commentary on disjunctive syllogisms. Nothing fallacious about those.

Counterpoint: you are wrong and Raptors is a cool name. Literally the only pro sports franchise named after (non-avian) dinosaurs, and everyone agrees that dinosaurs rule!

I looked and I did Nazi what you are talking about

A lot of criticism over Namiotka’s words, yet the article really seems to depart from what I understand to be the house style / best practices regarding suicide - “killed himself” instead of “died by suicide,” mentioning the method, etc. Seems like that is an intentional departure as an editorial choice / commentary,

Are you positive?

Sam Witwer’s performance has been a huge highlight of the season, and his portrayal of Brainy posing as Ben Lockwood was next-level great.
