Predaking is a good pull. Jetfire wasn't even from the TF line so yeah, makes sense it was die cast. And the original Jazz, Optimus, Megatron all had weight and a solid feel to them. Just felt like to make more money they used cheaper materials in the late 80s.

The post TF animated movie is when the toys got particularly plastic-y. Especially the TFs from cybertron like Blur.

Voltron originally came from the godaikin toy line (it was called GoLion) and they were ALL die cast. The heavy weight and quality became the gold standard for all toys. It's why I came to dislike later Transformers like the stuntacons.
