I have done something similar to this. I turned an old deep freeze into a Kegerator for my home-brew :-)

I do travel for work and I do have a laptop (ultrabook). Which does everything 90% of people need it to. I also don’t game when I travel for work either, so maybe that makes me different. When I game I prefer the space, the peripherals, and the desktop power.

I guess I chose my words poorly. I get the need for such hardware, but when the laptop is 7-10#, I don’t see the benefit of using one when you have the pro’s of more mmpfff, bigger screen, better peripheals on a desktop (not to mention is probaby cheaper than the lapop).

One thing to consider is nutrigenomics. Which basically means that everyone has different body chemistry based upon their genetic make up. Considering that most phones today are more powerful than old laptops or aging netbooks of a decade ago,I think Android is fine for that segment. What “task” is so complex that you think Android cannot handle?

This definitely applies to boots as well. If you are on your feet all day or even just long periods, spend a little extra and get some quality boots. Take care of them, and they will last you decades.
