The possibility that a man might, in theory, have been allowed to get away with her transgressions doesn’t mean that she didn’t transgress. It just means that men need to be held to the same high standards, and/or the rules of tennis need to chill the fuck out.

Code violations for coaching are not commonly nor consistently issued.

Many people mention John McEnroe, yet they conveniently leave out the fact that he was heavily penalized throughout his career.

Here is an article that details how Carlos Ramos has given code violations to players, including top ranked WHITE MEN:

Because Serena fans think that the rules don’t apply to her.

In addition, coach claimed that everybody coaches and nobody gets called for it, and he conveniently leaves out the fact that Carlos Ramos has penalized Venus Williams in the past for coaching during a Grand Slam match.

This umpire? Really? Do you know what you are talking about? He’s issued code violations multiple times to WHITE MALES who are top ranked big names. Furthermore, he has issued a code violation to Venus Williams for coaching, so the Williams camp was well aware that he is an umpire who will make that call.

I think some of the outrage is due to a lack of understanding of the rules of tennis on the part of some Serena fans and the belief that she is untouchable. For instance, yes, John McEnroe exhibited bad behavior. However, he was also penalized heavily throughout his career because of it and a lot of people don’t seem

I saw something last night that said in his entire career, McEnroe got 1 single point penalty. One point!

Carlos Ramos is certainly a handsome man. “Pretty”, though? I’m not sure I’d use that word.

Nobody is going to call you racist or sexist to admit that yes, she broke the rules and reacted poorly.

Yes, and when it is caught (admittedly something difficult to police), players do receive code violations. It happened to other players at this year’s US Open. I do agree that maybe there is an argument for changing the rule. However, once you’ve started playing a match for which the rules have been long established,

“But officer, everyone else speeds, and I’ve been speeding my whole life. Why do I get a ticket?”

Um, but she doesn’t have to say that. She can already say that she beat Serena Williams fair and square. In fact, she beat Serena the first time she ever played her. That’s what happened back in May.

Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Nadal and his coach have gotten either a warning or a penalty for a coaching violation.

Worse. Johnny Mac has been ejected from a Grand Slam match.

I mean, I’m not sure she could play the race card. Her opponent was half-Haitian.

Tell your husband that at ESPN’s website, he can watch a video of Serena’s coach admit that he was trying to coach her.

Not out of line. Serena’s coach admitted to Pam Shriver that he was trying to coach Serena. Everyone, including Serena, knows how penalties are given out. Maybe it’s her coach’s fault for trying to signal to her, but she was responsible for her own behavior after that.

Yes. He admitted to Pam Shriver that he was coaching. You can see this in a video clip at ESPN’s website.
