Shang-Chi was Simu Liu’s first film... I mean like he owes his current level of fame entirely to the MCU. He’s also actually making a great point about representation (he is a minority).... so shutup?

This whole “not real cinema/movie stars/etc.” argument is an opinion, usually one based in emotion.

Queer transphobes are the worst people

This is incomprehensible.

Yet everyone is cool with Black Star?

Obviously hopeful that Demings wins, but also wish we didn’t still have to hear the ridiculous “only in America is my story possible” line anymore. It’s absolute nonsense, and that sort of “American exceptionalism” just reinforces the insular thinking that both politicians and the voting public often lean into to

“How many people still think Braveheart was a true story?”

And I would say he was right. ‘Based’ means literally that, that the basis is a true event but not all of it is; it’s not a fucking documentary. Otherwise it would literally say ‘this is a true story’. Argo was a great movie but it was just that, a movie. If I want to know exactly what happened, I’ll read a history

The point here is he most likely doesn’t speak to men like that...

No, you shouldn’t yell at people like that, period. If she yelled back then it’s in defense and responding in kind. Nice try, tho. Your fellow incels at the Proud Boys shindig may buy that, but we don’t.

This is why we need ranked choice voting everywhere.

In the grand scheme, RCV can be a tool to fight back against the increasing extremism that partisan primaries promote”

This. Also, it would have bequeathed many of Bernie’s votes to Hillary, which could have meant 2016 didn’t start the age of unreason.

It’s also a viable way for third parties to make inroads in elections. Right now, tons of people weigh “electability” when choosing who to vote for. Basically, they decide to vote for the candidate that they think has the best chance of winning, even if they actually prefer another candidate (I think a lot of people

Yeah, it’s a little confusing in theory but after a few times in practice—with pundits (like yourself) explaining how it works, the process becomes clearer. I know I was a little confused filling out my NYC ballot last fall (and I’m certainly not happy with the result) but having someone say how you can push someone

Good. That frickin snowbilly’s got no damn business in politics. She couldn’t even handle sitting on the city council of Wasilla.

Let’s hear it for ranked choice voting, which while confusing if you haven’t dealt with it before, actually helps elect the candidates with the broadest support across the entire electorate. It essentially lets you say: I like Candidate A, but if I can’t have him/her, I would prefer candidate B, and have that

I’ve never understood why the media keeps predicting this mid-term based on past mid-terms. Congress is finally working for Americans, and the Republicans have nothing to offer but chaos.

True but there is no love lost between Palin and the other top Republican in the race (Begich) who finished 3rd - her ex-in-laws held a fundraiser for Begich and obviously enough of his voters ranked Peltola 2nd to put her over the top.

Although this is a good sign for many reasons, they still have to go thru the process again in November, which is right around the corner. The campaigning will probably just kick into an even higher gear over the next few weeks and there is no telling how desperate Palin may get or how bonkers her stunts can become.
