Yeah. I just pretty much went "Oh, that's a thing." And then I saw people celebrating and I thought it was kind of distasteful but didn't want to make a thing out of it because I mean the guy was a fucking monster, so reactions are understandable. And then I saw ensuing arguments and went ugggggggh.

Yep. Pretty much.

I agree that societal pressure alone is a poor reason. I guess my point is just how many factors are at work in this issue.

If the guy has psychological or mental illnesses or issues (which I'm sure he does, not that it even comes close to excusing his crimes) then it's possible he just had a drastic change in mental state.

Both. The thing is, everything I am listing are not things that happen individually or isolated, all or many of these issues will effect one person/family/segment of people at once.

Yeah, I suppose I get that. It's just reading so many judgy rants about real or perceived trends is exhausting.

Because if you do something to lose your family's support you lose all the support you have. In fact, without family support you may not have the resources to get to access birth control, even if contraception is on most drugstore shelves and legal barriers to its access and abortion access is minimal.

I don't like ladies in that way, but if I had to pick one it would be you, solely based on this.

Yeah, I don't get some of these super judgy articles that crop up here at times. I personally think lots of tattoos are silly, but, I mean, that's just me.

Lots of people. They don't have regular access to Rite Aid or CVS, they shop for their goods at a locally owned liquor store/mini-mart. Even if they knew, they don't have the time/transportation access to travel to the nearest big name pharmacy/market that has all of these things.

Yes, in addition to lack of education (where/how to access birth control, what do when it fails, time and/or money to take care of birth control options they know of) and extreme pressure from family/society/culture to live a certain way.

Good one.

Yeah, I always check "Two or more" for race. I guess I'm probably majority European but I am really fucking mixed and almost never "treated white" so there you go. And it is weired, in the context of my predominately latino community, I am almost always assumed to be latino, but in more non-hispanic areas

The federally mandated minimum wage (I believe it is $7/hr) may be enough to live off of in a state like Nebraska or other places that do not have very high costs of living, but it wouldn't be livable in urban California or New York. California (where I live) has a state minimum wage of $8, which is not enough to live

Okay, forget whether fast food workers should make $15 an hour or not, because controversy over that does not surprise me, how the hell are so many of you so fucking ignorant about who works at fast food joints, because high school and college kids are just a fraction? I'm just flabbergasted.

I know you mean it this way, but I snorted at you calling latinos "weird" and my professor shot me a stare. Maybe I can blame it on my weird latino-ness.

Unfortunately we live in a society where, even with decent contraception and abortion access, having a family is not a choice, particularly if you are of a lower socioeconomic status.

Ugh, yeah. I worked in fast food for 2.5 years full time, but I was as a student so everyone assumed it was non-permanent (and it was true, I eventually got a non-food service job) so many people I knew would say horrible things about my job, assuming I'd agree. I mean, I hated my job, but I did not look down on

At least he wasn't a bigot...?

That definitely sucks, like hardcore, but don't give up hope! I got a fast food job that was 30-38 hours a week so I could pay for college and was stuck there for two and a half years and it really really got me down. However, with the experience that school gives you, you can eventually find a better position that
