I think almost all of us have to resort to some authority when discussing complex issues. It sounds like you’ve had better luck with citing sources like the Mayo Clinic, rather than Snopes.

Just be prepared to fail.  Planting a few seeds of reality is often no match for the 24/7 comfort of angry, reality-denying conservative media that’s available.

Re-rack your weights reasonably, too.  Putting them back totally out of order is lazy and gets annoying quick.
