It’s kind of inevitable to compare them, but it’s interesting how Bob’s Burgers was great pretty much immediately and stayed great for 14+ seasons, whereas The Simpsons was decent for two seasons, the best-written sitcom in history for four seasons, pretty great for a couple more seasons, and then plummeted in quality

Linda Belcher is the best written mom on TV. She’s perfect. My all time favorite Bob’s Burgers line is from “Christmas in the Car” when Linda’s Dutch baby is ready early and she exclaims “aw, it’s a preemie - just like Jesus!”

Then stop watching, you donut. Christ, people are weird.

I’ve always liked that the antagonists in ‘Bob’s Burgers’ are so often people telling the Belchers they have to behave in a certain way: there’s the correct method of enjoying wine, there’s the accepted path to popularity, there’s something Bob needs to change about his restaurant. And the Belchers strike back and do

Well, both things are true. It started in 2011, twelve years ago, and is starting its 14th season.

Gene’s not my favourite, but he definitely has some great lines. “It’s Channel 6 news! They’ll finger anything with a pulse.”

Exactly. Linda’s objectively terrible in a lot of ways, but the performance is top notch and she’s a big part of the show’s humour (and heart, ultimately).

He’s the focus of one of my favourite ‘Bob’s Burgers’ jokes of all time:

“...Season 14 review...”

Crazy to keep watching and expect something different.

BB and Always Sunny are two rarities that have managed to keep creatively fresh — weirdly by doing the opposite things. BB’s DNA hasn’t really changed. It’s good-hearted but also zany and gross and shall forever be so. Sunny has has lasted by doing the opposite — completely reinventing itself, launching whole seasons

Interesting. I thought Amelia was incredibly lackluster. But that Christmas episode actually brought tears to my eyes, just as I was losing hope about the season. They do musical things and...emotions, I guess? Anyway, they do those two things very well

An episode all about Regular Sized Rudy? Sign me up!

The series is a masterpiece because each story represents something new. It teaches kids how to grow up and be okay with their feelings in a fun and gentle manner, and teaches teenagers and adults that how we can still grow even if our best years are behind us, or still to come. My favourite character is Gene. The kid

“Amelia” and the most recent Christmas one are two of the best episodes they’ve ever done, and from the 13th season, no less.

Regular-Sized Rudy, a kid literally defined by his averageness

“Ameilia” was a beautiful Louise story; for being someone so jaded at such a young age, it was a trip seeing her find her hero.

It’s definitely incredible that it’s held up so well over the years, but damn does it make me feel old to be reminded that it’s been on the air so long. I still think of it as a “new” show comparatively.

I wonder how much turnover there’s been in the writing and production staff over the years (or I guess, more to the point, how little). Every season has its ups and downs of course but the show really has been remarkably consistently good-to-great over just about its entire run. Last season’s finale “Amelia”, for
