It would be nice if any outlet was this objective about the strikes, but it’s not gonna happen. They’ve taken it as their duty to tell people how they should feel about them.

An interesting side effect of the Hollywood strikes—which the studios could end at any point if they just give the writers and actors what they want
Palm Springs is one of the best comedies of the past decade, absolutely.
One issue I something have with Will Ferrell movies is that...mainstream hollywood movies often have a very pat moral message that seems condescending and reductive. Several of Will Ferrell’s films (like Talladega, the greatest) mock and use that concept at the same time (first or you’re last)...but the movies where…
It’s fine. For us, the neighboring township’s watewater treatment plant releases treated water into the same creek that the drinking water plant a half-mile downstream uses.
Seriously, she’d look way better in an orange one!
Um, why is her head stuck in a fuzzy pink urinal?
1. I’m invested through mutual funds and 401K, so the answer is I don’t know.
The vast majority of shares are held by pensions, 401k and IRA accounts and university endowments. not uber high net worth individuals.
It’s the point of the article, to tell us that Billy Porter is upset about losing his house and therefore we should be upset about it too and give our empathy and support to his cause. Also, the phrase “Forgive me if I” is so common I’m surprised you haven’t seen it used before, I didn’t think Billy Porter was asking…
He didn’t say he was broke. He just didn’t want to keep the commitment of a mortgage when he has absolutely no idea when he will ever get paid again. So he’s cutting expenses.
Many of us have mortgages, car notes and bills under the predictive nature of ‘having a full-time job’ and ‘being able to pay future bills.’
If Billy loses said job and his future income is at risk, what is there to do other than immediately down-size ‘just in case’ the strike toils on?
California caps increases on property taxes. They did this 40-50 years ago, because prices were skyrocketing then and elderly people were being forced out of their homes because they couldn’t afford the taxes. So if he lives in California, it’s unlikely that’s the reason. It’s more like he was living beyond his means.
Forgive me if I don’t get too upset on Billy Porter’s behalf. Celebrity Net Worth, a site often referenced for, well what it says, has him at $5 million. Not a lot compared to some in the biz, but relative to regular folks that’s a lot of money and his sob story about his house falls flat since he’s likely selling it…
SAG hasn’t even been on strike for a month. I know Porter writes, too, but...he didn’t have a one-month emergency fund? Not one extra mortgage payment in savings?? He has no endorsements, he’s done no ads? This is weird.
Reaching the middle class is a pipe dream for millions of Americans. Just because your bosses are wealthier than you doesn’t make you poor. Living paycheck to paycheck just means you’re living outside your means.
Are you saying WE are the shareholders? Do I have a cache of movie industry money that I don’t know about? Fuck.
Welcome to the middle class, Hollywood elites. Most people don’t even own houses to sell.
He knows that the real villains are people like Disney CEO Bob Iger, who makes “$78,000 a day” and refuses to seriously consider giving up what the writers and actors are asking for.
