Exactly. Private pilot license holder here - can’t afford a plane with a bathroom, and having been around enough RVs to know that I don’t like water plumbing in a vehicle in general - you just close up that full pee jug and dump it in a toilet when able. I would never toss a pee jug overboard from any vehicle.

EXACTLY.

Honestly, the “talking slowly” gag in the crossover made me realize that Lower Decks probably crams in 70+% of the dialog of the 45 minute dramas into 22 minutes.  There’s definitely more than half of a regular Star Trek’s worth of plot and dialog in a Lower Decks episode.

I’m sorry, I don’t agree.  The downhill slide started with the “pivot to video,” and the merging of the old Onion sites with the toxic remnants of the Gawker cesspit.  It was bad long before Herb and the move.

Clearly they were playing the long game; replace good AV Club writers with Sam Barsanti, so that when they brought out AI-penned articles, they wouldn’t seem so bad in comparison to his!

Right?  I’m also curious whether the grade and overall conclusions would be the same if someone else played his character.  As it is, I’ll probably tune in when I want TV I don’t particularly need to pay attention to, and see if it sucks me in or not.

1000x this.  The only justification to me would be the inability to find fuels that can run the original engine.

Remember when AV Club apologized for one of their authors being full of shit?  Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Bryan Heitkotter - the USA winner the same year the guy this is based on was the European winner, is an acquaintance of mine; I wonder if they’ve mixed in any of his story, as he also races pro as a result for a while.  Maybe there’s another character loosely based on him in this?  I’ll need to ask him.

“(Cleaning up poop is a confusing concept, but they know who Hitler is?)” - Sounds like college sophomores to me!

In the Costa Mesa, CA area, they wanted to recycle their wastewater back into drinking water. After the locals complained about the prospect, they simply pumped the treated wastewater down into the aquifer a few hundred feet from where they pump water back up.

One downside of being in a union is that they may go on strike. For most types of union workers, a strike fund will help, but all the unionized workers I knew growing up also tended to set aside more for savings, especially when contract talks were coming up.

Do you have a pension fund or a retirement plan?

If you have a 401k or a pension, you’re a shareholder, too.  Most people’s retirement plans depend on the stock market moving ever higher.  It’s easy to point the finger at billionaires, but a lot of companies’ largest shareholders are pension plans and mutual funds.

What I mean is, if you can grow meat in a lab in such a way that results in A) no harm to animals, B) no harm to the environment beyond what would result from you eating an all-plant diet, and C) is no more harmful to health than an all-plant diet, then there is no intrinsic value in eating an all-plant diet.

Yeah, no, you’re not going to transition everyone to a plant based diet.  For most people, the main reasons not to eat meat come down to the ethical treatment of animals, environmental issues, and health.  There is no inherent “good” to a plant -based diet, but rather the avoidance of those issues.  As someone who

I was buying Anchor Steam in PA back in the mid-Aughts.  Going national is definitely not what brought them down.

Yep; I’ve brewed my own beer and can affirm that you can cover up a lot of errors with hops.

I shouldn’t have to go to some place with 20 taps.  Ten years ago I could go to a regular restaurant and have at least Sam Adams Boston Lager available.
