You're lucky. We went camping for our honeymoon, so now we live in a tent in the woods. I'm only able to type this because we went on a day hike and happen to be in an area with cell phone reception. It mostly hasn't been too bad, but our car was recently repossessed (hard to mail payments from the back country so we

Haha, it was definitely one of those wake-up-in-the-morning, look at my notifications, think, "Oh jesus, what did I write last night?" moments. Glad you found it funny!

I have not seen her stand-up. Maybe I interpreted the character wrong; as I said I did only see the movie once and it was awhile ago. ;) I probably wouldn't have spouted off on it at all except I was admittedly pretty drunk last night...

I apologize. As I said, I was just trying to give context for my comments because you said you had not seen the movie, and I meant that to say I agree with you and wouldn't see all similar portrayals of an Asian character as problematic. Clearly I was not communicating well last night (admittedly I was a little

Wow, I will have to look into that. I saw it on HBO when it first premiered on the network and almost turned it off on the first instance. It wasn't just offensive, but it was disappointing because of the way that Wilson's character played with those "is she gay?" social issues. I'm a queer woman, and I've definitely

I apologize if I gave the wrong impression by describing her as uptight; I am not Asian, but my sister is married to a Taiwanese man and has lived most of her adult life in Asia (various countries), and I have visited them there multiple times and am close with my Taiwanese in-laws who live in the US, so I am actually

I love Anna Kendrick, seriously. I have never seen her do anything that wasn't either wonderful or adorable or sometimes both.

I don't really know what to say about it but I noticed it too. I only saw the movie once, but weren't the only Asian characters the crazy uptight roommate (and her band of silent Asian friends) and the one girl who couldn't talk louder than a whisper? WTF PITCH PERFECT

So I've never seen the music video for that before, and I've got to ask...am I the only one who felt bad for the poor cook at the end? Like, c'mon Anna, don't leave him hanging. He was all smiling and playing along and then you can't even get the dough out of the oven before you run out apparently in the middle of

It's a bit funny (and by funny I mean sad) that he doesn't seem to realize that a huge portion of those crimes he's talking about are nonviolent drug charges, which people of color are arrested for at far higher rates than whites even though actual usage is pretty much the same across races. Hmmm, could racist

Communist undertones?

I think part of the disconnect here is that not everyone believes it is taking a life, at least not in a meaningful way. I had an abortion at 8 weeks and did a lot of research into the stage of development my fetus would be at before I went through with it. I honestly felt like the cow that died to create the

I've been avoiding the details of the meltdown precisely because the few things I've seen were exactly like a flashback. *shudder*

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees shades of an ex in Schwyzer. I swear some of his arguments prior to this meltdown were pretty much word-for-word the BS my pseudo-feminist ex used to manipulate women.

I thought we could go outside if we were wearing overalls, because overalls are hard for rapists to take off so they'll wait for another victim instead.

You're living in dreamland, unfortunately. They're not allowed to trespass, but they're allowed to get as close to the buildings as public land allows, which in many cases is right on top of them.

This is funny to me because I remember back when people were first talking about the possibility of Obama running for president, there were a ton of people who thought his name was too weird for him to ever be elected.

I always think that's such a weird consideration. Who actually feels that they have to live up to their name? I have a Biblical name and grew up in a Christian household, and was very familiar with (and loved) the story of my namesake as a child. But I never felt like I had to be remotely like her.

The state-sanctioned names thing always struck me as classist and racist as well. I know it would be racist if implemented in the US. Look at how many people complain about Black names already. Or to use the Denmark example, Jesus is a very common Hispanic name.

I'm still kind of hoping that there's some sort of communication disconnect happening because otherwise it is bizarre. ;)
